An excellent impression for a politician to leave

The billionaire founder of the Phones4U retail chain handed £500,000 to the Conservatives three days after clashing with shadow Chancellor John McDonnell in a well-publicised row on BBC Radio.

John Caudwell said he gave the donation because he had never before felt so “never felt so paranoid about the destruction of Great Britain” which he believed would have happened under a Labour government.

Just mere minutes of conversation convinces the punter to support the other guy.

Way to go John!

  1. I saw that convo. It came down to this

billionaire— if you do this, i will stop doing this.
John Mac- No you won’t. I don’t believe you will.

Not a surprise. John McDonnell positively radiates evil and malice.

  3. I am still giddy about the election result. If my SIPP had crashed so close to drawdown it would have knocked off a decade or two from my expiration date. In other words, I would have taken my final morning swim early. The plan is to sell the house as a last resort, drink and have sex and spend like there is no tomorrow for 5 years, then the last day jump into the waves and never come back to the shore. Currently that place is Tel Aviv but it may change. No rest homes for me.

  4. @Jussi: Ever read The Lotus Eater by W Somerset Maugham? A bit of a cautionary tale for anyone contemplating the ‘Spend the pension fund on wine, women and song until its all gone and then top myself’ retirement plan………..

  5. Jim, I’ve read some Maugham but not that one, I will have a look, thank you.

Did he find love in the book? Just when one is about to top oneself one finds love and life and a future.

  6. Pre Election John Caudwell announced he would leave UK if Corbyn won as he believed he already paid more than his fair share of tax and would not pay more

  7. John McDonnell has, allegedly, withdrawn his support for Rebecca “Rat Face” Long-Bailey as she has appointed a Stalinist as her leadership campaign manager

Hmm, in Left world ‘today’ a Stalinist is worse than a Marxist, what about a Trotskyist such as BBC’s Andrew Marr? Why?

I was more afraid of McDonnell going into the election than I was of Corbyn. They’re both evil, of course, but Corbyn is a cretin and McDonnell is not.

I love it when they disintegrate into squabbles about which is the purist leftism as if it makes any difference to the electorate. Most of us look at it as an argument over who is the biggest murderer.

Absolutely. McDonnell gives me the creeps. He strikes me as someone who likes violence, or at least being around violent people. He’d always make sure his hands didn’t get any blood on them, but he likes to see it on others. You can see the light in his eye when talking about ‘punching Tories’ etc. He gets off on it. A sort of Himmler type.

  11. @Jim

+1 McDonnell’s eyes really are a window to his soul – as are Corbyn’s

The difference is McDonnell’s show pure evil, but Corbyn’s are anger & hate

    @all

Is Leninist better/worse that Stalinist in Left world? Will Castroist & Chavasist enter their lexicon?
