Boris Johnson is planning to beef up the House of Lords with Brexit-supporting experts to create a ‘working’ upper chamber, according to Tory insiders.
Lawyers, trade specialists and environmental gurus are expected to be elevated to the peerage in the coming days and weeks as the government seeks to strengthen its hand before passing more Brexit legislation through both Houses of Parliament.
Perhaps I should apply to be a Senior Lecturer?
“Professor, the Lord Worstall” has a certain ring to it, doesn’t it.
Viscount Worstall of Neoliberal ?
The potato’s head would finally explode
Good on Boris!
Playing the system, stacking the cards, shafting the enemy… Learning from the enemy’s playbook…
Wonderful stuff!
“Environmental gurus” is, at least, an honest description of faith based leaders…
This is a good plan, lords Lilley and Ridley should get some likeminded company.
Can we expect pro-Brexit posts to appear very soon on Spud Research Limited?
Please, no environmental gurus. What will it take to repeal the Climate Change Act? Boris seems just as attracted to the climate nonsense as any other politico apart from Trump, the Chinese and Russians
Not just you, Worstall, but I’m up for it too. They should grab me before all my expertise is obsolete.
Is he going to remove a few from the Lords to make room?
Diogenes
“Boris seems just as attracted to the climate nonsense as any other politico….”
Well he is sharing a bed with an animal rights and enviromental wacko.
Still, if she lasts as long as his, numerous, other bits of crumpet, we maybe shouldn’t worry too much.
Don’t you have you have to be voted “#1 accounting influencer of 2019” by the ICAEW first, Timmy?
The ‘enviromentalist’ Lords should be seated amongst the Bishops.
I’m with Mr Yan,
Since Blair’s reforms we seem to be creating Lords a damned sight faster than they are dyeing off. Life peerage needs to be changed to something like 10 or 15 years, at most.
I’ve just been listening to a fantastic podcast series on the French Revolution (25+ hours worth) and I quite liked the idea of the Council of Elders, we should make the minimum age for the Lords around 65 or 70, rather than the 40 it was then. That would would have the same effect.
BiND–What is the podcast called please?
Senior lecherer.
@fnord – good point the climate evangelists would put the “cross” in cross-bencher.
And if Boris is serious about respecting those who have leant him their votes (which is surely all of those who voted) then he should please shelve the Green Crap (© D Cameron) instanter.
Mr Ecks,
Revolutions. French Revolution starts series 3. All good platforms, as they say.
Do we think he’ll have the balls to take the knife to the bloated civil service, public sector, and quangocracy? I’m not getting my hopes up
Starting with Remoaner Nicky Morgan yesterday
We don’t need more Lawyers, CBI and Green Gretas in HoL
Will we be seeing Lord Tim of Wetherspoons, Lord Next, Baron Next and Lord Bamford of JCB?
What of the once and future Duke of Brussels?
There’s no need to use Worstall in your title, Tim. How about becoming Lord Murphy of Ely….? Just to annoy the Spud? And there’s some creativity to be had with a coat of arms, too!
