Suppose so really

Like customers in non-sex industries, clients come with ideas about how much a given worker’s labor is worth, and cam performers of color, who are gender queer, fat or disabled have to navigate some clients’ perceptions that their labor is worth less.”

Gwyneth Paltrow’s on screen labours pay more than those of Doreen from accounts. Kim Kardashian’s on screen efforts pay more than those of xe from accounts.

This is a surprise or problem to whom?

  1. how terrible would it be if it turned out that fat customers ‘perceive’ fat performers’ labours to be worth less?

and anyway I take umbrage at the use of perception here- Yes, perception is involved, but the value is something that falls out from the sum of all perceptions.

  2. “…..Gwyneth Paltrow’s on screen labours pay more than those of Doreen from accounts. Kim Kardashian’s on screen efforts pay more than those of xe from accounts. This is a surprise or problem to whom?….”

It came as a surprise to the BBC. They thought that Jeremy Vine was worth more than Samira Ahmed. And they were told officially that he was not.

In other news, Public Health England declare that soya burgers taste exactly the same as rump steak, and that everyone must like broccoli……

  3. Have to navigate some clients perceptions.

Specialisation is (as usual) the answer – if you are a fatty, then sell your services on FatCamGirls.com where people who like plenty of cellulite will pay for the privilege.

How much money AngryLeftistTrannyM2F.com will get is less clear.

  4. The demanding viewers, pressure from management and grueling hours took a toll, and Carter left the studio after only two months.

The job was awful, so she quit. Why is this even a story?

Look, I have some sympathy for exploited workers in remote one-company towns: miners, power plant employees, whatever. The Guardian used to write about, maybe even care about, such people. But downtown Los Angeles has a lot of other employment opportunities; especially for reasonably attractive young women. If this is representative of the problems faced by the modern workforce, we’re doing pretty well as a society.

  5. Katlyn Carter got her first cam girl job in 2014 after responding to an ad posted on Craigslist by a fetish modeling studio in Van Nuys, California. Carter and her partner, Kayden, were struggling to make ends meet despite working full-time office jobs, and she was intrigued by the potential for financial security.

As always with these hard luck stories we don’t get the other side of the coin. We’re told she and her partner don’t earn enough to live the lifestyle they’d like, but we are told nothing of that lifestyle.

  6. So if I don’t pay for porn that doesn’t float my boat, I’m some kind of “phobic”?

Especially when porn is free everywhere you look?

    Or am I missing something?

  7. Another poor innocent exploited by the sex industry? Having read, more like she was exploiting the sex industry. Or hoping to. We can’t have an article about the sex industry without someone’s being exploited, can we?
Problem being the number of people aspire to work in it’s virtually limitless. She thinks she can sit down in front of a cam, flash her tits & fiddle with herself & coin it. There’s probably about half a million attractive young girls in the LA area alone would like to do the same. Problem being there’s not nearly enough blokes sitting at home in their underpants willing to pay for it.
It’s an industry where nobody makes any money unless they’re doing something very different. It’s saturated on the supply side. She didn’t make any money. Whoever’s doing the tech side didn’t make any money. The bloke who owns the business didn’t make any money & has gone bust by now. 9 out of 10 concerns started, go bust almost immediately.
Few people get exploited because there’s bugger all to exploit.

  8. @Ryan

Yep. Same as if you dislike Megan’s behaviour, you’re a racist

Am I a racist for disliking how Diana behaved?

Am I an ‘islamaphobe’ for disagreeing with this “You’re all racist” harridan?

    @bis

    +1

Also, living in LA is expensive. Loads of white East European, black African girls etc can charge less and make a living

  9. PCar

The youtube link: What a compete and utter fruitcake that woman was (the imbecile arguing with Piers)!

“In other news, Public Health England declare that soya burgers taste exactly the same as rump steak, and that everyone must like broccoli…”

….and if you disagree keep your mouth shut or you will be off to the Gulag.

  11. Good enough internet access means your competing with most of the world, even if you think about time zones then LA is competing with Mexico and South America for part-timers (day job and cam girl in evening) and full time from Eastern Europe.
Barriers to entry are minimal and their costs are likely lower than LA overall, as for specialty niches I suppose charging a premium only works if there’s very few providers, for a small market won’t take many providers to push prices back down to standard rates.

  12. A fetish is ipso facto a minority interest or we’d not call it a fetish but just regular meat and two veg shagging.
