It’s not the race card Afua, it’s simply shtick

Afua Hirsch tells us that, well, British society is racist, innit, and that’s that.

The correct response being:

Squealing about how Racist Britain is just doesn’t work as soon as you lift your eyes and peer at what the rest of the world is like.

As that position of Afua Hirsch shows. A thoroughly racist society does not take a double immigrant (part Jewish, part Ghanaian), provide one of the finest educations in the world (Oxford), allow them to qualify as a lawyer then provide a good metropolitan living on TV, radio and as a columnist in one of the major national newspapers. Nor, of course, would a patriarchal one offer that to a woman. The very soapbox we’re being harangued from shows what drivel the contentions are.

  1. Well she’s perfectly free to fuck off to Ghana or Israel. Best not Saudi though; there she’d probably be someone’s slave.

  2. “The ‘playing the race card’ accusation is just a way to silence us.”

The “not allowing any comment on the opinion piece in the Guardian” is just a way to silence us.

  3. She’s right that white people don’t know what it’s like to be black. But black people don’t know what it’s like to be white either. Men and women have no idea of each other’s lives, young people have no idea what it’s like to be old, ugly people have no idea what it’s like to be pretty, etc. Ranting about racism/sexism/ageism/lookism isn’t going to change those fundamental unknowables.

The only thing which might meaningfully inform is blacking-up; though apparently that’s frowned upon these days.

  4. The thousands of English girls raped by Asian and African men would like a word with Ms Hirsch. The fact is, like all race activists, she just hates White people.

  5. I`m not sure the success of “a black woman” shows that there is no prejudice towards black women. I find her ( and the other professionally black and black minstrels ) pretty tiresome but many black people, unlike her, are also working class people, facing educational lack of opportunity low level prejudice and all the problems a society that is notably unequal and difficult to progress in by European standards anyway.
Attacking the messenger is an effective tactic of the far right because it stops the articulate and empowered from speaking and appeals to your favourite emotions ..envy and insecurity .
    r

  6. Newmania: “Attacking the messenger is an effective tactic of the far right because it stops the articulate and empowered from speaking …”

What’s that got to do with Afua?

  7. I propose we set up “theme prisons” where people can be sent to get first hand experience. I’m thinking Soviet collective farm, nazi labour camp, cotton plantation and so on where the guards all enthusiasticly act the part. Then people who think they live in a racist, fascist state or that communism is a great idea can be educated otherwise.

  8. BraveFart,

She’s looking much prettier than she should. If someone did that to my kids, I’d beat them until they looked like a Picasso painting.

I suspect that like the poor, racists and racism will always be with us, but anyone who denies that the worst excesses have been removed and those that remain are marginal and have been criminalised has another agenda. That’s why they’ve had to turn to “privilege” to maintain their status as activists, but they’re nothing more than self-serving hustlers.

The problem with using privilege is that its a class based problem if it is a problem. A rich black person is hardly in a potion to lecture a poor white person on their privilege and this is why they’re losing the argument and get ever shriller.

  10. Newms – What? It’s ok for the Fresh Prince to gettin’ jiggy wit’ it, but not moi?

    How niggardly of you. 🙁

  11. Bet Ghana and Israel display more racism towards her than a Brit.

She writes bollocks in the Guardian for a living, clearly forgot to check her Liar’s privilege when writing this ode to victimhood.

The only mild comfort I take from her writings is knowing she’ll be in the gulag before me.

  12. Steve
Getting jiggy with it refers to dancing and is derived from the word “Jig” . The word”Jigger” is version of the poisonous and appalling racial slur ‘jigaboo ‘
I shall assume you were confused by words

  13. Brendon O’Neill has a decent piece at Spiked:

Indeed, this week we have had the truly grotesque spectacle of lefties expressing more concern for a duchess, Meghan Markle, than for 57 working-class girls who suffered ‘profound abuse’.

But Afua Hirsch’s feelings were hurt!

The cognitive dissonance is complete: ‘All white people have privilege’, they cry, as a review reveals the abuse and rape of white girls by mostly Pakistani gangs.

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/01/15/we-have-to-talk-about-these-pakistani-gangs/

  14. Jonathan, the O’Neill piece is good, but I think he missed the point about why those crimes were allowed To continue. He says it was because police didn’t want to stoke community tensions, or some such. It looks more as if white senior police management were worried about being accused of racism by other whites.

  15. Jonathan
    +1

Indeed, On the BBC’s homepage. Not a mention of this story. But Sandi Tostvig leaving Bake-Off is. And the programme isn’t even a BBC one.

  16. …black people, unlike her, are also working class people, facing educational lack of opportunity low level prejudice and all the problems a society that is notably unequal and difficult to progress in by European standards anyway.

In which European countries, specifically, is it easier for blacks to progress in relative to the UK?

  17. Based on what I’ve heard she doesn’t sound very Jewish to me, she’s the one on Sky right? Very anti-zionism and anti-Israel. She looks like one of those Ethiophians hanging around Tel Aviv central bus station, reeking of excrement.

  18. The word”Jigger” is version of the poisonous and appalling racial slur ‘jigaboo’

Oooh look – something else Newms doesn’t know!
    OED

Jigger – one who ‘jigs’ or dances a jig. Also in dial., An odd-looking person
Jigaboo – A Black person, a Negro (Like Jig n², a term that gives offence)

    Who’d have thought?

  19. “Western man towers over the rest of the world in ways so large as to be almost inexpressible. It’s Western exploration, science, and conquest that have revealed the world to itself.
Other races feel like subjects of Western power long after colonialism, imperialism, and slavery have disappeared.
The charge of racism puzzles whites who feel not hostility, but only baffled good will, because they don’t grasp what it really means: humiliation.
The white man presents an image of superiority even when he isn’t conscious of it.
    And, superiority excites envy.
Destroying white civilization is the inmost desire of the league of designated victims we call minorities.”
    Joseph Sobran, April 1997

  20. “She’s right that white people don’t know what it’s like to be black.”
You can find out, easy enough. Go mix with a bunch of black people. Then you’ll find your different, treated differently, And some of them won’t like you because your white.

Try having a black girlfriend. It’s not the white majority you’ll have problems with. You may be insulted. She’ll be asked why she’s with a white guy, aren’t her own people good enough for her? You’ve a good chance of being assaulted by black men for :”messing with their women”. Despite the only connection between them & her is her colour.

And that’s just the “black”community. Pakistani community, you could get yourself dead. Or her.

If she wants to go looking for racism, she’s looking in the wrong place.

  21. @ RichardT

Indeed. As I said it’s a decent but not perfect because O’Neill skates over the fact that the girls were targeted because they’re White and the crimes against them were ignored by the authorities and the media because they’re White.

Imagine the cries of horror if even a dozen Muslim or Jewish girls were raped by an English rape gang. It’d be front page news.

  22. @Flubber

    Yep, got it in one.

There is a similar quote from James Baldwin (who was black for those who don’t know) from his “notes of a native son” I’ve seen referenced.

What am I supposed to do? What am I supposed to say to anybody “BAME” who’s anti white bigotry stems from a massive inferiority complex? Not a facetious question BTW.

As Baldwin observed, it wouldn’t matter if I’d left school at 15 to shovel shit and this “BAME” person had three P.hDs from Cambridge. It’s what I would represent.

I can feel a #Metoo style thing coming on here. Sorry, I’ll only talk to you if it goes on camera.

  23. RichardT, “Jonathan, the O’Neill piece is good, but I think he missed the point about why those crimes were allowed To continue. He says it was because police didn’t want to stoke community tensions, or some such. It looks more as if white senior police management were worried about being accused of racism by other whites.”

Yesterday, at the same time as this was being reported, I got a daily news digest among whose stories was one about how Somalis were being racially profiled for FGM. In other words, how dare anyone racially profile Somalis for FGM? (I mean, when I grew up among pasty Hertfordshire and Essex lads, FGM was all the rage, but of course we got away with it due to our white privilege).

But seriously, this huckterism like, I suppose, all hucksterism, has us all coming and going.

Mr B, I, too, looked up ‘jigger’. I’d been only vaguely familiar with the word. The Urban Dictionary (I’m street, you see, plus I doubt my elderly copy of the Concise Oxford contains such words …?) has it thusly: “Another racial slur referring to black people. Comes from a Bantu* (African) word meaning meek, or servile (i.e. a slave).”

Well, we have it on the authority of the UD and of Newmania that the word is appalling and poisonous and a racial slur. I am left uncertain as to the relationship between its being a racial slur and its being appalling and poisonous. Are these tautologies, or is this an uncommonly appalling and poisonous racial slur?

But I am getting the sense that it’s all a bit circular. M’kay. It’s a racial slur. If I must, I’ll accept that on an ex cathedra basis. However, the UD then tells me that its racial slurriness derives from a black* African word. Black Africans referring to someone as being servile or like a slave! Were they being racist when they coined this word? I try to care, honestly I do**.

I mean, I might say that Newmania was a slave, to money, greed, tranziism, the EU. He might say I was a slave to, what? Don’t know, don’t care. But it’s all part and parcel of the give and take of invective and of argument, no? Yet some people due to the colour of their skin, or their self-identification, get a pass on all of this. They get to tell the rest of us that, “That’s not funny, because my grandfather died at Auschwitz (or whatever)”.***

I don’t get it. People get called “cunts” all the time here, as well as in more or less good-natured/bad-tempered saloon bar disagreements up and down the country. Newmania does it. Plenty of us do it to him. Isn’t that worse? Would “smelly black cunt”, or “jiggardly, niggery smelly black cunt”, or “limey slave-owner fish belly white wanker”, be even worserer?

    Anyone for sticks and stones?

Ackcheloi, thought, I do get it. It’s just the usual politicking, grievance-monger top trumps. Shut up, they explained.

    * Don’t ask me why Bantus might also not be white, for I have no idea.

    ** Kidding!

*** He got drunk and fell out of one of the guard towers …

  24. Mark – I agree totally. To the rational mind being the target of someones ire implies one did something wrong in the first place.

But we didnt. They’re just inadequate arseholes, that today’s diversity obsessed culture forces us to indulge.

Its really simple Afua, fit in or fuck off.

  25. “Imagine the cries of horror if even a dozen Muslim or Jewish girls were raped by an English rape gang. It’d be front page news.”

    Oh, good heavens. Yes.

The extent to which the originating lifeblood of this nation has been sacrificed on the progressives’ altar will haunt us for centuries.

  26. It’s also very Old Testament blaming descendants for what contemporaries of one’s ancestors may have done. Didn’t we have the Enlightenment a few centuries ago? A person is solely responsible for their own actions.

If you want to be secular about it: a person is only responsible for their own actions.
If you want to religious about it: God will judge a person solely by their own actions.

Coming or going, they’re trying to run the world backwards.

  27. “will haunt us for centuries.” We won’t have centuries, m’Lud. The pass is sold, the game is lost.

  28. dearieme, I fear you’re correct. But I have not abandoned hope, not quite. There is more to this mess than we’ll see in our lifetimes.

And, talking of passes, Roncesvalles must have seemed pretty bleak to Roland, and yet history recounts a subsequent tide-turning which must, in Roland’s time, have seemed unimaginable.

  29. Perhaps Steve was punning on ‘jigger’ and ‘Jewish nigger’…?
    (Hands smelling salts to Newmania…)
    *snigger*

  30. That’s not funny, because my grandfather died at Auschwitz

He got drunk and fell off the guard tower.

    (I’ll get me coat)

  31. @Flubber

As Oscar Wilde once said, you should always forgive your enemies because nothing annoys them more.

I think the “woke” snowflakes in “universities” really need to understand a bit more about about basic psychology (silly of me, reading is a stretch for most of them)

Endlessly apologising – forgiving – is effectively positive feedback for their resentment and it just gets shriller and shriller.

It amuses the shit out of me, doubly so when arses like this Afua whateverthefuckhernameis try to adopt a haughty tone of superiority, faux tolerance and sophistication.

To see an absolute masterclass (I’ll see if it’s on YouTube- youngsters here might not know who these people are) find Bernard Manning and Esther Rantzen on Parkinson. Late 70s I think. Bernard at his finest!

  32. Excellent one-liner from Theo and m’Lud is on cracking form.

Many Franks for The Song of Roland reference – it would be encouraging if the imported rape gangs turned out to be the Oliphant in the room.

  33. “Many Franks”.

I saw what you did there, Mr B, you major domo.

If you can get in one concerning Les Rois Faineants then I shall doff my titfer in your general direction, with a sniff of vermouth.

  34. Mark – I never found Bernard Manning funny, but in retrospect I realise the eternal whingeing about him by offendotrons was motivated by fear and loathing of the white working class.

Comedy doesn’t have to be offensive, but it’s often hilarious when it punctures the pompous platitudes of so-called polite society, and for that reason I think we need more Jerry Sadowitzes and fewer Russell Howardses.

M’Lud – I am grateful for your learned opinion and will definitely hire you when I’m in front of the beaks for aggravated niggling.

TMB – My dream is to one day win the Countdown teapot with CUNTYBOLLOCKS

Theo – *sniggers* It grieves me that they never thought to Britishise the new name for Marathon bars.

  35. Ah, m’Lud, all those later Clovises and stuff before Little Pépin swept the Merovingien rubbish away have particular resonance today because they too preferred to take a step back from royal duties to pursue a ‘progressive’ lifestyle. The wives were pretty poisonous too so that’s another echo for you right there!

  36. Gentlemen, and Julia, a thread of great erudition (apart from the usual suspect)! And Flubber’s link really gives the lie to Afua Hirsch’s world view.

But I am getting the sense that it’s all a bit circular.

Yep, it’s disdain of ignorant, uneducated lower classes – remind me, which ‘sect’ having been running education since 1960s?

  38. I made the point that if you look back in history then the average white working class European could hardly be called privileged and powerful so the idea of all whites are racist because of historical power and privilege didn’t stand up. You’d think I’d suggested sacrificing puppies and kittens, same with pointing out that life in sinkhole estates was shitty regardless of race and comparing a reservation to a council estate.

  39. Bloke in North Dorset

    Flubber,

That link is painful. Both women putting words in Rod’s mouth and then accusing of being a racist bigot. Typical leftie tactics.

  40. Bloke in North Dorset

For a bit of sanity on this issue Coleman Hughes (such a wise head on young shoulders) talks to John McWhorter about race in the USA and by extension the UK. They discuss how racism has become a religion for white liberals, amongst other issues.

And check out Coleman Hughes at Quillette, there’s some great reads and listens, esp on reparations.

  41. Does anyone else remember when ‘jigger’ was an informal term for a measure of spirits? There’s a line in one of the Bond books (Live and Let Die, IIRC) where a bartender complains that you’re no longer allowed to ask for a jigger of rum, you have to ask for a jegro.
