What does it mean to be “too far left” — and why are conservatives not scolded about centrism?

In more detail, the “political centre” is further left than anything which can be called conservative. Thus it’s not possible to be conservative and centrist.
Of course, there are other names for those who try – RINO being only one of the polite ones.
I may have misunderstood but isn’t it one of Tom’s brainwaves, and one with which I entirely agree, that it is the Left (ie Republicans and Democrats, Tories and Labour, etc.) which is the most truly conservative forces?
And, theoretically (not that I give a tinker’s wotsit) is not conservatism entirely centrist at the centre?
Is it not the eye of the storm around which all else spools?
Don’t ask me, I am trying to think in between being seduced by an Austrian countess and a Basque barmaid. Just throwing it out there …

When it comes to the NHS there’s none more conservative than Labour.
