From Newmania, something useful and perceptive:
The assumption here is that accountability is expressed by voting.In fact it is expressed by the feet
, not the hand , ie leaving/selling which is expressed in price. As we well know , democratic control is often fraudulent . I have democratic control over the local schools in the public sector via my votes ( in some useless sense ). It is an illusion clearly , in fact I have no control because they are a monopoly.
The subject being Snippa and his shareholder capitalism shtick.
But then Snippa doesn’t believe in the right of exit – vide his opinions on taxation by passport not residence.
Went out there a chorus girl came back a star
Schools being a monopoly has nothing to do with it. Education is Labour’s fiefdom and the Tories dare not touch it. Frit, as the lady said.
Whenever lefties drone on about Scandinavian ‘socialism’ I like to point out that Sweden invented the concept of ‘free schools’ and then chuck in that there’s no minimum wage in Sweden either.

Well, yes. There are countries with almost no private sector, like Singapore, that manage to give a much better education (and for less money).
In fact it is possible to have all schools be public, and yet compete — provided you allow parents to send their children to the school of their choice. The Academy system in Britain is starting to show results, with removal from direct control leading to better results.

I’m presuming english, to Newmonia, is a second language. What could the first be?

There is Scandinavia, and then there is the Scandinavia which exists in their heads, and they are very different.
Russian, Mandarin, North Korean, Vietnamese?
*I’m sure you can see the pattern here*

It’s highly unlikely to be an EU language, isn’t it, which makes his despair even more risible
@Rob
Spot on. Similar to the USSR in their heads
