  1. He always seemed quite teh ghey, back in the broom cupboard.

But at his age isn’t that sort of thing supposed to be winding down anyway? You know, replaced with a shed and a hobby.

  2. How the hell can you be gay after being that close to Holly’s willoughboobies? I’d be on that like the Milk Tray man at a speedboat convention.

  3. “Middle-aged man leaves his wife because he wants to sleep around” – not a headline I expect to see, alas.

  4. “I’d be on that like the Milk Tray man at a speedboat convention.”

Steve, I’m not the first to demand a new keyboard from you, but I *do* demand a new keyboard and I give you the kindly advice that you might offset some of your keyboard-based losses by buying shares in keyboard making firms.

  5. I think my Gaydar is not very sensitive, but I predict I could watch Dancing On Ice when he’s on with the sound turned down, wearing earplugs and a thick sleeping mask, and I’d still be able to detect a raving poofter.

And he’ll not be able to claim to be the only Gay in the ITV village

  6. Reminds me of Bruce Jenner – so much of a woman that he now got a girlfriend. Seems he thinks he’s changed his sex but not his sexuality.

  7. Isn’t he the one who started his telly career with his hand up Gordon the Gopher’s bottom? Can’t say I’m shocked at this news.

  8. “I’d be on that like the Milk Tray man at a speedboat convention.”

Or like a rat up a drain pipe?

  9. Perhaps we’re all missing the point of Tom’s filet de Schofield a la Chateaubriand de Ballsac en Resievingend (1): *why* is he not ready for a relationship with a man?

    (1) for culinary and linguistic purists, it’s fusion from the town of Condom (snigger) and the city of Brest (snigger).

  10. If he’d simply changed gender he would not have had to come out as gay as he would remain heterosexual

  11. Do tou know what, thid isn’t funny. A woman is married to a man for 27 years, gives him her youth, her looks, her prospects and two daughters, then he tells her he’s gay. Everyone who’s eanyone and no one calls him “brave” and forgets to mention her except as a device for praising him.

Gay or straight, he’s a cunt

  12. Also in the news today man convicted for rape over pretending to represent a modelling agency and talking women into sex at a fake photo shoot
Apparently by lying he removed their agency for consent
While I’ve no problem with scum like this being locked up that seems a very dodgy way to go around it, at what point does fraud resulting in sex constitute rape? How about that classic of promising the mistress you’ll leave the wife? If you don’t then is it now rape?

  13. Actually as Phillip made wedding vows and many other statements to his wife, maybe even asserting he was straight at one point does this constitute a fraud sufficient to remove her agency to consent and should he be charged with rape?

Yes, but he’s on the telly; the default assumption is that he’s a cunt.

  15. M’Lud – Chateaubriand de Ballsac en Resievingend

    Magnifique!

    Theo – Shag-a-doodle-do

Ironman – It’s a bit shit, yes. There’s a lot to be said for Victorian hypocrisy – at least they never expected to be celebrated for stepping out of their marriages.

  16. Why is this celebrated as being brave?

Loads of people are out. Nobody really cares any more. If he decided to come out in Saudi Arabia, that would be brave.

I heard this at work and immediately filed under “Don’t care.”

And why is his wife supporting this? All i can think is that soon we’ll be seeing articles in mags and the papers by her titled “Why i support my husband for wanting to bum other men.” maybe a book as well in the future.

  17. @BF

    Isn’t Philly on Al-Beeb.

I find all the media luvvies congratulating him nauseating. The selfish poofter has been deceiving his wife and family for decades. Hope she takes him to the cleaners

Met Phillip Schofield when he was lead actor in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, he seemed gay to me. Great performance and amazing ending – spoiler alert

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Spoiler Alert – Don’t read below if not seen

    .
Joseph rose up from stage to circle on a “cherry picker”* thing, we were front row centre and could almost have touched him.
    * Not in this theatre: no rising platforms out into the audience

Weinstein’s defence lawyer is “Bad” says Guardian

Why? Reading emails from his “victims” who kept seeing him, asking favours, offering gifts etc for years after he allegedly raped them

  19. I doubt there’d be as much enthusiasm for somebody gay announcing they’ve realised they’re actually straight.

  20. I would say in Phil’s defence that he waited until his kids were grown up before leaving his wife, which is more than many – gay or straight – do.

That said, I am increasingly on the side of the ancients with regard to the concept of sexual ‘orientation’. Phil has been giving his wife on every now and then for nearly 30 years, so he’s not exactly repulsed by ladyparts.

  21. No one was going to accuse Pip of toxic masculinity anyway. I tend to side with the ladies in that if you didn’t grow up as one you aren’t one, and that would apply to gays as well as ladies. As you age, your hormone balance changes. Suddenly being struck by some little Tadzio doesn’t really make you gay, just ask the diversity. Have a wank and think about redoing the kitchen.

  22. “Do tou know what, thid isn’t funny. A woman is married to a man for 27 years, gives him her youth, her looks, her prospects and two daughters, then he tells her he’s gay. Everyone who’s eanyone and no one calls him “brave” and forgets to mention her except as a device for praising him.

I dunno. Talk to women in their 50s and they’d consider beautiful kids, a nice house and plenty of money as pretty much a good place? They tend to be less bothered about regular pounding by cock than in their 20s.

  23. So if I lie to someone that I have a villa in Provence, let’s shag and next month go there and shag some more, and she is willing, that is a rape. So why isn’t Schofield guilty of prolonged rape lasting decades?

  24. Latest rumour is that he was shagging a runner on the show, messed him around and the guy was going to go public.

I’m going to bet his wife is getting millions for the “very supportive” line.

  25. I must have been feeling tolerant yesterday. He was bound to have been on the verge of being outed.

I was also forgetting about something that a relative who works in environmental health told me. Every now and then they have to investigate incidences of certain horrible shit-linked conditions and often find that the ‘victim’ is a chap who’s been indulging in arse sex a-plenty – often at rather insanitary ‘bathhouses’ and not been paying enough attention to hygiene.

Thing is, a substantial portion of these guys turn out to be married and end up passing something disgusting to their unknowing wife.

  26. I recall interviewing Phillip Schofield when he was in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in the West End. My gay radar (gaydar) went into overdrive.

Appears Phillip Schofield’s wife has always been a Beard and children too from some age. His not wanting sex with men hints he’s asexual

If BoM4’s correct, they may all be covering for his peccadilloes
