The event, titled “Women for Bernie Climate Change Town Hall,” featured former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner, author Naomi Klein, healthcare activist Dr. Victoria Dooley, and Amy Vilela, the Nevada co-chair of Sanders’ campaign. It took place on Thursday afternoon, in an intimate town hall setting. About 75 percent of the seats were filled, tallying about 30 people in attendance.
Well attended event don’t you think?
Intended for the politbyro and the elite.
O’Leary has made some waves in other news.
Just wait till the elderly pop stars start giving concerts for Bernie….
Did they include the speakers & the Salon correspondent in the 30? Might not have been the raging success they’re making out.
Exactly, bis. Prolly more journalists than people.
‘It took place on Thursday afternoon, in an intimate town hall setting. About 75 percent of the seats were filled, tallying about 30 people in attendance.’
40 seats, by my math. They expected a tiny ‘crowd,’ else they would have booked a bigger venue.
‘Klein emphasized that since the U.S. is a country that is one of the top emitters of greenhouse gases, it is our “historical responsibility” to have the best plan in place that thinks beyond U.S. borders.’
US is the ONLY country to reduce emissions in the last decade.
“And Bernie is the only one that actually recognizes that because Bernie is an internationalist,” Klein said. “Bernie’s plan is exponentially better than the other candidates, it’s on the scale of the crisis; we need U.S. leadership to be strong enough that it really does inspire the rest of the world to step up just as quickly.”
The theory being that if the U.S. commits suicide, other countries will be inspired to commit suicide, too. The Jonestown approach.
because Bernie is an internationalist
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between anti-Semitic dogwhistles and praise. Anyway, Ramon Mercader did nothing wrong.
“US is the ONLY country to reduce emissions in the last decade.”
Nonsense. The UK has decreased CO2 emissions over the last decade, and are 38% lower (as of 2017, probably more now) than 1990.

In fact most European countries have reduced CO2 emissions over the last decade:

Nina Turner.
Bwhahahahahahahahahaha….
You’d have to be from Ohio to appreciate what a nitwit that woman is.
I went for a walk around a physical bookshop for the first time in ages. Interesting to see what people are reading these days, or at least what bookshops reckon sells.
There was a big religion and spirituality section all filled with astrology, crystal healing, self-care, power of positive thinking etc. A somewhat less big science section, all filled with various scientists’ thoughts about God religion, spirituality, morality etc but couldn’t see anything much about actual science.
And then there were sections on economics and politics, rather smaller, but with an astonishingly thin and cross-pollinated variety of authors. If the book wasn’t actually by Naomi Klein, Owen Jones, Afua Hirsch or one of a couple of others of the Thought Elect, it was at least endorsed in big letters on the front cover by one or more of those names. Usually “more”. And if it was written by one of them (even some of their very old Greatest Hits were there in big numbers – Chavs No Logo etc even though the global economic and political environment has changed massively since then) then you could be even more certain that there would be a pile-in of the gang’s cross-endorsements on the cover.
What a boringly, tragically homogeneous world of ideas was on offer.
On Profiling. They do that on Ben Gurion airport. Security is not based on checking one’s bags. You drive in, say in a taxi, you stop and a nice lady with sub-machine gun takes a peek inside – you look like me they wave you in. You look more like a follower of the religion of peace you get to take another lane. Your whole experience at the airport is based on various forks on the road based on what info and profile is gathered on the way about you. Why spend the same money, time, effort on a Welsh grandmother or a Japanese pensioner as on a Iranian bearded child?

Not even that – it’s only what the bookshops reckons will sell to the kind of people who buy books in a physical bookshop. Look at the Amazon bestseller list to see what people are actually buying (which seems to be a mixture of cookbooks, historical fiction, pop-psychology self-help and aristocratic memoirs).
You are correct, Jim. Several EU countries have reduced their emissions.
I was lied to by the alt-right press.
@RichardT
A good point. Not sure I found much solace on that list either to be honest but it is at least a little more diverse (in the best and fullest sense of the term)!
@Jussi
O’Leary correct in what he said, BBC being outraged confirms this

USA not “only” UK has too – at enormous costs to public
My wife runs a bookstore in a small rural city. It sells no woo, very little religion and only the better autobiographies.
It’s a different market, but it exists. There is basically no crossover market though.
Someone please explain to me what is this fucking EU passport they keep banging on about? Do you get that if you are an EU citizen? What is this concept of EU citizenship anyway?
Words matter. Because there are concepts, and rules.
Jussi, Just about the same as a “U.S. Driver’s License”, even though they’re issued per state.
