Where do these ghastly little fascists come from?

This national lockdown has met with the approval of the vast majority of the voting public, at least for now: when it comes down to it, we are a nation that believes in a strong state, especially in a moment of national adversity. The comparison to the United States, from which our economic liberals draw their ideas, and often funding, is instructive.

Compared to us, and other European countries, the global superpower is barely a functioning state, far less a nation as we understand the term. In this respect, we are fortunate to have deep cultural reserves to draw on: a certain national mythos of dogged making-do and carrying-on in the face of adversity has since the Second World War defined much of the nation’s self-image, and now is the time to utilise it for the greater good.

To this end, the government has proposed a mass mobilisation of 250,000 volunteers for the NHS, to deliver food and medicine to those self-isolating at official request.

It is a good idea, and the speed and scale of the public’s response, with more than 400,000 volunteers already, is heartening but it perhaps does not go far enough. Continuing the wartime analogy, an impromptu volunteer effort is, like the Little Ships at Dunkirk, suited to a sudden crisis of short duration, but a sustained battle over the course of months or years requires a different degree of determination entirely.

If this is genuinely a national crisis on the scale of the Second World War, as the government’s extraordinary economic and political measures suggest, then we should mobilise the full resources of the state to face it. To do this, why not institute a form of conscription suited to a peacetime crisis: an NHS national service?

Because conscription is a form of slavery you dunderhead. It turns people – literally – into helots, slaves of the state.

Fuck off.

Releasing our youth from effective house arrest and allowing them to commit their health, vitality and purpose to the nation’s greater good is not just a quick fix to a sudden manpower shortage but a statement of who we are as a nation. It is an opportunity for the British government and people to affirm that we value younger people, and that we need them to play their part.

In boosting the NHS with a transfusion of new blood where it is needed most, freeing up both trained medical staff and the armed forces for the period of greatest danger now approaching, it would be a move of some practical utility which bears within it the seeds of a far greater social good.

It’s not even disguising the drooling over Blood and Will.

  1. “To do this, why not institute a form of conscription suited to a peacetime crisis: an NHS national service?”

And do what, precisely? Sorry commies and fascists, but the Little Platoons are doing the job. It’s working. If anything, there’s an oversupply of people offering to collect prescriptions and drop them on a doorstep.

The only thing that isn’t working is being able to go to the pub, cinema, holiday, to see a gig, and more conscription isn’t going to fix that,

  2. I wonder how many of these volunteers come from “our youth”? Was this written by Baldur von Schirach-Ely?

  3. I would support conscription in the unlikely event that we were threatened by an invader, and we didn’t get enough volunteers. Maybe this viral attack on the nation is comparable? I dunno. Either way, we seem to be getting enough volunteers.
If we don’t, and there is a genuine need, I can’t actually see what’s all that bad about getting a few idle young doleys to work for their free cash for a brief period. We pay the fuckers, so it’s not ‘slavery’. They’d still have the choice to starve, or get a job.
(I personally wouldn’t be against saying to them, in ordinary times, if you want free money from us you’re going to have to litter pick for a few hours a week, or even dig and refill pointless holes if we say so. But I digress.)
I appreciate the difficulty in assessing whether the need is genuine, and also – before Ecksy has a stoke, in these times of possible ITU overload – about the definition of ‘brief’ and the possibility of its being extended.

  4. This national lockdown has met with the approval of the vast majority of the voting public, at least for now

Because the vast majority of people have been bombarded with a ceaseless panic-inducing scare-athon from politicians and the media. When it turns out (as is beginning to seem likely) that the whole business has been blown out of all sensible precaution, then many of those who have allowed themselves to be frightened into compliance are going to be very, very cross.

Poor old Boris – all his political capital gone up in smoke for a mirage.

  5. I should have stressed, the *maybe* in the above comment is intended to be taken with a lot of salt – this isn’t 1940 and Operation Sealion underway, and I don’t pretend that it is.

  6. Releasing our youth from effective house arrest and allowing them to commit their health, vitality and purpose to the nation’s greater good

Yous be finkin dis be like 1980 or sumfin, bruv?

  7. Good luck getting the diverse yoof of today to do anything under compulsion. Unless you’re planning to put a few up against the wall early doors for insubordination/going AWOL pour encourager les autres, they all ‘know their rights’ and you might as well try and nail jelly to a wall.

  8. Interested: “in the unlikely event that we were threatened by an invader,”

    Haven’t you noticed?

  9. TMB–They will be even “crosser” when they are out of work and waiting for benefits arriving about the same speed as a glaicier. All because of Fergusons hot air and the fuck-wittery of political pigs.

See an earlier thread for the “Blojo’s Dilemma” piece.

  10. I would support conscription in the unlikely event that we were threatened by an invader

I wouldn’t. I’d laugh my arse off if the Russians or the Portuguese or whoever tore into our feminised, pussified, LGBTQIAWTF-ified armed forces.

No son of mine is going to risk his life to defend diversity, transgender pronouns, wimmins ishoos, carbon neutrality and smirking Metropolitan wankers. Let them eat shit.

  11. @Interested “Operation Sealion”

Even that was a load of baloney.

To launch a successful attack across the channel you would have needed control of the sky AND sea. The Allies had both in 1944. Whatever happened in the skies in 1940 there was no way Germany could have had control of the channel for the vital first few days of a seaborne invasion.

I doubt the British would even have needed to open fire on the invasion flotilla and reinforcements, just cruised up and down a bit. I would imagine the impact of a 40,000 ton battleship steaming at full speed past a long line of flat bottomed barges being towed along would be unsettling. And we had 9 of them in the home fleet together with over 100 cruisers and destroyers and god knows how many smaller ships.

We would, I am sure, have cheerfully sacrificed half the home fleet to stop what was, after all, going to be the one shot Germany had.

With all their landing and support craft at the bottom of the channel, any Germans on the UK beaches would get no reinforcements and would have soon run out of supplies.

  12. The Global superpower is barely a functioning state. Really? Then how did it become a superpower?
As far as Covid is concerned they have fewer cases per capita and more volunteer helpers- without the government even having to ask. And more ICUs to start with.
Perhaps a better idea would be to teach free markets and national unity to our youths- especially those who came here with other loyalties.

  13. “Where do these ghastly little fascists come from?”

Greece, apparently, though he got what passed for an education in Britain.

Aris Roussinos is an International Relations PhD student: he would be, wouldn’t he?

  14. If you think these are ghastly little fascists, check out the people eagerly phoning the cops to report people for taking more than the one permitted exercise break!

  15. Anybody else starting to get the feeling this is a pre planned exercise/ drill by TPTB worldwide?

  16. @ Longrider
    Thanks for the link.
So Aris Roussinos thinks we had a Conservative government in 2008!?! that our last national crisis was 1914-18 and that the country offered a generous Welfare State in the 1920s!?!
Those of us who stayed awake in History lessons know that we have had several national crises since Homes fit for Heroes: the General Strike in 1926, the 1931 slump leading to a National Government, the Second World War, the 1973-4 Miners’ strike and 3-day week, the 1979 Winter of Unrest.

Poor little rich boy, went to an expensive (£21k pa) but not top drawer school, then to the university with the highest %age from “Public Schools” then became a journalist.

  18. I’m not sure if I don’t relish the idea of compulsory national service. Young Tarquin & Emily being dragged screaming from X-box & instagram to be forced to wash bedpans. Or is NS only Wayne & Tiffany?

“Poor old Boris – all his political capital gone up in smoke for a mirage.”

Probably would to if he was the only political leader to do it, but since they have unanimously enacted the same, he is probably safe.

Agreed, two “probablies” in the above sentence leaves cause for doubt…..

  20. Blojo’s dilemma:

“Per Hector Drummond–Ferguson–govt science genius –now says only 20 thousand tops–mostly ill and infirm–are going to die not the hysterical half million–so a normal bad flu year.

As Hec points out they are lining up to claim the Lockdown did it–to try and save Blojo IMO.

Which is a bind–2 days have already caused 105 thousand UC claims. The full 3 weeks will do vastly more damage. But they might have a chance to say LD saved us. And thus save Blojo.

If thery minimise economic damage NOW by stopping lockdown and a not having to do a large chunk of the money-printing –then it is obv Bloj blundered. But saves many more jobs etc.

They all blundered –was there a single NO vote against the lockdown tripe in the House of Fools /Traitors? But they have short memories and Bloj might have to carry the can

I don’t want that despite despising Johnson–because the rest are fucking worse”

  21. Odd phrase in his bio, in Wikipedia: “He also trained as an army officer.” How very carefully phrased. I infer that he never completed the training, whatever it was, in whichever army or school. I wonder why he’d want to make the boast, when he can only do so so obscurely?

  22. Aris is a bit of an aris*, nasic research finds: https://www.lucianne.com/2020/03/25/us_was_more_prepared_for_pandemic_than_anybrother_country_johns_hopkins_study_found_30315.html
Thats without going into the screamingly incompetent way we run our health service in the uk.
Ii is run in a Stalinist manner, it’s always going to be half arsed.
Look at all the whining about post code lotteries, thats the whole point – try something different and see if it works. Every other 1st workd country runs a non national health system with some form of insurance , every bloody one from Norway to New Zealand, and this twat wants to conscript people to keep the ghastly edifice of the NHS lurching onwards on slave labour.
There is a very good reason no other country has copied the NHS- guess why.

  23. Blood and Will.
    Eh?
I have never heard of that that but Blut und Boden, I assume you approve of. God knows why you are suddenly ‘against’ Fascism ….you would think you hadn’t been going on about the will of the people ( Things closet racists say part 44 )

  24. ‘This national lockdown has met with the approval of the vast majority of the voting public’

    Wut? When was the referendum?

    A “begging the question” fallacy.

‘European nations, including our own, have chosen to freeze their economies for the greater good of the nation’s health, and particularly out of solicitude for the survival of our oldest and weakest members.’

No true scotsman/appeal to purity fallacy.

‘Compared to us, and other European countries, the global superpower is barely a functioning state’

    A fallacy fallacy.

How old will the youfs have to become before they can get out of their servitude?

Roussinos is scary. How long has he wanted to conscript the kids, and, now, finally has a plausible reason to do so?

He wants to conscript kids. It has nothing to do with CV.

  26. With regard to nauseous little fascists, I can’t even chill / relax to music on the radio now. Across two or three of the usual channels, some dribbling cretin keeps coming on announcing “DON’T LEAVE HOME UNLESS …” by which point I’ve usually hit the button for the next channel.

I’m guessing it then goes on to say “… UNLESS YOU’VE HAD A FUCKING GOOD CRAP, RUNG 111 TO ADVISE THEM, AND WASHED YOUR HANDS WHILST SINGING GOD SAVE BORIS”?

  27. PF,

Be fair to the broadcasters who haven’t bothered to revise their disaster SOPs since 1984. They’ve been too busy with the diversity committees and gender retraining. So we have a somewhat different disaster than that envisaged.

The propaganda is more up to date and thought out here, tho it’s as clear TPTB don’t have a clue. The disaster plan from 1984 is also woefully out of date, but they are ad-libbing it here at least. Germany’s 1984 was, of course, people going to bed every night not knowing if they’d wake up in Germany or Russia. I guess we know the answer now.

  33. Breitbart says Itaies had 8000 coro deaths yesterday.

Because the stupid pricks record any death in any hosp with coro people in it as a coro death.

I think more and more people are beginning to realise that the cost of all this absolute shite will be vast. Blojo does not have long to stop this nonsense. And he shows no sign of doing so.

  34. I suppose there might be circumstances where the situation is so dire that drafting people into service may have some justification. I remember watching a show interviewing survivors of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Most were children at the time, but one old guy talked about being dragooned by the army into a work crew. At the end of the show they said he was 103 when he was interviewed, and he was sharp. There is precedent.

However, there are calls right now for sewing hobbyists to sew masks and thousands of people are seeing them and donating them to hospitals and senior homes and thousands answered the call. As it turns out, regular factories are now turning out masks faster than home sewers can sew them, but as was recently demonstrated in both the California and NSW fires or recent floods, people will pitch in to help without being conscripted. You can get a lot more by asking nicely, but there are those who think they’ll never get a chance like this to wield a whip and they are screaming for the opportunity.

If the US is not a functioning state per some European who dreams of being bullwhip artist, well viva la disfuncion.

  37. ‘Where do these ghastly little fascists come from?’

They are always there. Just waiting for current events to allow them their heads above the parapet.

The Right’s failing is thinking the Left/CM actually care about the current issue. Pelosi even padded up the House Coronavirus Relief Bill with all sorts of perks and payouts. A great embarrassment that the legacy press didn’t even notice.

It is critical the Right understands coronovirus is an OPPORTUNITY. The bigger the problem, the more bold the Left gets with their proposals. But their ideas are always there. I.e., they always want compulsory service to government. Coronavirus did not give them the idea; they always have it. The pandemic allows them to mention it publicly. A year ago, they had to keep quiet about it.
