I guess Joe Biden is a Southern Democrat

Delaware’s in the South, right? A slave state even if not perhaps part of the Confederacy?

All of which makes this commonplace but very odd:

The former US vice-president secured vast support among African-American voters as he outperformed expectations and swept the Southern states

The Ds were the party of the Old South, Jim Crow and all. That they now own the black vote is obvious, known, but also most odd.

  1. Things change and the left forget inconvenient bits of history.

In Bristol in the early 1960s the it was the main trade union representing bus workers (the TGWU) that was behind a ‘colour bar’ on employing non-whites. This led to the Bristol bus boycott of 1963.

After protests, demonstrations and the boycott, the union backed down and the General Manager of the bus company made an historic announcement on 28th August 1963 that the ‘colour bar’ no longer applied.

This announcement would have echoed round the world leaving ripples through time had some bloke over in American not stolen the thunder by making a speech about ‘having a dream’ on the same day.

  2. Meanwhile over on twatter, James Woods (yes, the ostracised actor who doesn’t care) predicts:
Biden gets the nomination, (this time they won’t even have to screw over Bernie) appoints Hillary as his choice for VP. If (not ‘when’, I feel) he wins he steps down as Presi due to dementia (which is already showing) et voilà, Hillary as President…..

She then pardoms him when he is (quite rightly) indicted over Ukrainian shennanigins..

    Any bets?

  3. If (not ‘when’, I feel) he wins

Realistically, he’s got about as much chance as someone who publicly announces they have information that will lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.

  4. Had to look it up. It is North of the Mason Dixon line, or rather East of it given that it’s the dividing line between Maryland and Delaware a line that runs N/S.

  5. Bloke in North Dorset

    Andrew C,

And it was also the TGWU that fought bitterly to block women becoming train drivers IIRC.

  6. It is depressing to note that when James Clyburn, a 14 term congressman from a party which has done nothing to improve the lives of coloured people, tells them which old white guy to vote for they duly fall into line,

  7. Andrew C,

Leicester council that was telling Ugandan Asians that they weren’t welcome were a Labour council. Also, Labour MPs walked through the lobby to vote for Section 28.

Truth is, Labour jumped into identity politics because they had nowhere else to go. Unions had gone into decline and they sought out every group with a grievance and without special representation (including pedos).

  8. Bilbaoboy,

It’s fun, but Hillary’s a whiny serial loser, and I suspect Bill’s run out of favours to get her on the ticket. No-one running for president wants Hillary on the ticket because it’ll lower their vote. She couldn’t beat Trump, who was a mess, because people just don’t like her.

  9. Steve abolutely right. Trump is a shoe-in. He seems more Teflon as we get closer to the elections.

Hillary should cross the aisle, give him a blo* job and run as his VP. Then she can give him the Clinton Clan treatment and become President.

Only way left as far as I can see.

Trump is salivating over Biden and Bernie.

  10. Whether Hands-on Joe – or his husk – wins the Presidency probably depends on The Virus, Wall St, and God knows what else.

BTAIM I think BBB’s suggestion is pretty reasonable – and terrifying. Could the cow then appoint Slick Willie as her VP?

It’s time for patriotic Americans to catch The Virus and thrust themselves into the company of La Clinton.

(By the way, as things now stand if Donald LH Trump and his VP were to die in short order before a new VP is appointed, the Presidency will alight on Nancy Pelosi. God has a cruel sense of humour.

  11. Shoe-in?

Lordy, Travolta and Sammy Jackson will be round soon to take the English part of my degree back!

  12. Never mind about Hilary.

Imagine Biden announcing on the eve of the Dem convention that his running mate will be Michelle Obama.

  13. The advantage of Hellary to Biden is that she might wait until 2 years and 1 day into his reign before she has him shot, or committed, or whatever. because that way she could be Prez for 10 years. (Well, if I’ve got the rules right.)
