So much for responsible adults then, eh?

Maternity services are bracing themselves for a “spike” in unplanned pregnancies which could place further strain on clinics amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, experts claim.

The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (Bpas) is warning that the prospect of an extended lockdown combined with a lack of access to contraceptives is likely to fuel an increase in accidental pregnancies.

Bit of a surprise that the strong, educated and independent women of today haven’t worked out what causes babies yet.

  1. “that the strong, educated and independent women of today haven’t worked out what causes babies yet.”

Oh, they have…. Their solution, however, is to simply have us cut our tonkers off. Preferably with a blunt pair of pliers going by the noises some of them make.

  2. It won’t be the Sarahs and Pollys, will it? These conceptions will all be the immaculate kind with a ghostly unknown father and a bill for the welfare state.

  3. My prediction is that there’s going to be a spike in the divorce / spousal murder rate in about three months time. And a spike in the birth rate in about nine! 🙂

  4. There is a circa nine-month time-lag between conception and birth and the coronavirus emergency is expected to be over in three months or so. Hence maternity services will not get peak demand during the CV emergency.
I thought that BPAS were supposed to be experts on pregnancy so why don’t they know how long it lasts? Or are they merely experts on abortion?

  5. “Maternity services are bracing themselves for a spike….”
Isn’t that such a newspapery thing to come out with?
And my fevered imagination conjures up images of nurses in uniform, just waiting, suitably braced. Ready for Spike.
This self-isolating thing’s OK in some respects, isn’t it?

  6. Baron J–No 3 months. Blojo had best get this lockdown ended by next week if not sooner. Only one of everything at Tesco’s says to me they are having supply difficulties–hopefully transport bottlenecks. If a shortage of actual supplies we are all in real trouble.

  7. My mother’s generation was born without any medical attention at all. A century later, people can’t be born at all without it. But Telegraph seems more interested in STOPPING children from being born.

“Or are they merely experts on abortion?”

    That.

And they should be happy, the government has relaxed abortion restrictions – what restrictions? – for the next two years, in its Corona Virus legislation. Which, of course, will mean forever.

As they say…”never let a crisis go to waste”.

  9. a lack of access to contraceptives

Have The British Pregnancy Advisory Service and other “charity” providers all closed when most needed? Good reason to strip them of Charity status and no more Gov funding

Meanwhile, GPs, Pharmacies, Grocers and Online still happy to provide contraceptives

Women: everything is always not my fault, cry, tears, wail – pussy pass Feminists, strong, independent, blah not my fault, cry, tears, wail – pussy pass

“starting to”? Nope, ‘Has’ is word you wanted

    @Baron Jackfield

First reported ‘lockdown’ spouse murder yesterday, suicides too

As said, any spike not now but in 8-9 months – BPAS: withdraw Gov funding as ignorant on gestation
