Proler than thou, I don’t have a pantry. Just a fridge and a cupboard above it in the kitchen.
I have a laundry room! My washing machine is in the cellar under the kitchen.

Both houses I lived in as a kid had a pantry, and it was never called a larder. The boiler room in my house now might have been a larder in a previous age (larder as I’m dahhn sahhf 🙂)

Pantry vs larder. My mother had both, pantry of the south wall, larder on the north. Larder cool with tiled shelves and floor, pantry drier with wooden. Pantry with cubby hole above for small children to hide in and later to make liquorice drinks in. Bliss it was etc.

A pantry is a very useful thing to have. Ideal for storing cheese and other things which don’t want to be fridge cold, nor to be at the temperature of a modern home. Likewise a cellar.
Message to the editor; I am not sure Newspaper Watch is the right heading for items about Salon, Vox etc. Something like Online Repositories of Halfwitted Mentalism Watch might be better.

My first Army quarter (‘85) had one and it was very useful. they weren’t particularly old houses, ‘50s maybe ‘60s.

I loved it when we first moved to a place with a cellar. No need to spend your evenings in the lounge watching your own underwear drying.
I reckon having a laundry room is the definition of being upper working class.
