An interesting thought

It’s women who are more likely to be made redundant

Hmm, women are more likely to work in the public sector, the public sector’s not laying anyone off…..

  1. Yes we’re in the middle of an epidemic thats killing men almost twice as much as women, particularly in the middle age ranges, and of course we must all think about how all this affects the wimminz the most………….

  2. Incidentally, can you imagine the batshit insanity that would be emanating from the usual sources if women were being scythed down disproportionately by Covid-19? The demands that anything and everything be done to prevent this holocaust?

Whereas more men than women dying is just a footnote of statistical interest that gets a mention in the articles, but otherwise is a totally neutral issue.

  3. Jim,

Depends – are they middle-class women being scythed down, or working-class? If the latter, we’ve learned from Rotherham that the media would downplay and/or outright ignore it.

  4. I can actually see that more women might be getting made redundant.

After all it’s women who tend to be in offices and doing non-jobs. If you’re looking to cut costs, which are you going to trim first – HR or the people adding value on the factory floor?

  5. Here we go, it’s back again, the “racist virus”, but this time Doreen Lawrence is heading the enquiry:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52405243

Fuck me this is nuts. Absolutely crazy. IT IS AN URBAN ISSUE, not a race issue. High density populations such as London and Birmingham are most affected, and their minority population share mirrors the infected share very closely.

The sheer fucking dishonesty of this – the media, politicians, all of them. It’s a joke.

Obvs! Look at the hoo-ha surrounding the apparently disproportioned number of BAMEs being harvested by the Grim Reaper, especially in the NHS (Let Us Protect It). Apparently BAME medics give in to being bullied to work without PPE. (I seem to remember nobody much rated David Cameron’s PPE).

Cherny_D: which are you going to trim first – HR or the people adding value on the factory floor?

That’s not how it works, though. Your instruct HR to do the trimming and they trim the people who kicked off about their last appraisal.

  7. which are you going to trim first – HR or the people adding value on the factory floor?

Perhaps not so easy. Trim the factory floor, lose money. Trim HR and fuck up something legal as a result, lose money. In an ideal world the answer is obvious, but we aren’t there.

  8. “the public sector’s not laying anyone off…”

They could start with that useless organisation Public Health England. Then they could take a scythe to NHS “managers”.
Then … But they won’t. Not a chance.

  9. Yesterday I cleaned the toilet, made myself an exquisite toast lunch, and wrote this article

Hopefully she did a good job of cleaning the toilet, her article is tedious boilerplate prattle that makes you think Sharia has its upsides.

    Rob – Baroness Doreen Lawrence

    Lol.

  10. More likely to work in hospitality, catering, hairdressing and a whole lot of jobs that have been shut down by our SEXIST government. Out with the Tory scum. Put Ecks in charge.

  11. @ Rob
Not ALL of them – Chris Whitty was very polite but honest about it [he must have been tempted to tell the journalists that they were muck-raking idiots as the BAME % of deaths was lower than the BAME % of Brent].
However someone (I think it was Tim) pointed out that areas of Muslim concentrations don’t have higher death rates, even though they are poorer, so there are some anomalies worth investigating.
Within Europe there are some comparable anomalies: speaking a Latin-derived language seems to be linked to a higher death-rate (compare Belgium with the Netherlands or Spain France and Italy with Germany or other big countries, even Romania and Moldova have a much higher (approaching a 10x multiple) rate per million that than their neighbours: Bulgaria, Slovakia, Ukraine.
But, as Professor Whitty discreetly pointed out – the biggest risk, apart from pre-existing serious ill-health, is for old (white) men like me. The higher death rate per million compared to women is never stated but since women greatly outnumber men at older ages the differential is much greater than it appears from the crude figures of deaths.
Prostate cancer kills more people than breast cancer – and when did the BBC or Grauniad or any MSM suggest that we should cut funding from Breast Cancer research/treatment to expand that for Prostate Cancer?

  12. There is a big difference in death rates between French and Italian speaking cantons in Switzerland and German ones. It surely cannot be down to testing, unless within Switzerland there is a huge disparity between cantons. Surely also demographics must be very similar, ditto urban patterns? My guess is culture, e.g. how people greet each other. If your greeting involves “getting in the face of” someone, e.g. a kiss, you can see why you’d be far more at risk with a respiratory virus than just a handshake or a wave.

  13. Tangentially, I see Trump has suggested we should inject ourselves with disinfectant and take pulses of UV light.

In between the doses of hydroxychloroquine, zinc, vitamins C and D, and taking up smoking again, I’m not sure I have time for these latest doubtless highly effective, and obviously safe treatments.

  14. Bloke in North Dorset

We know how Labour Party reports and enquiries get written. First draw up your conclusion, eg the party isn’t antisemitic and give to someone who is deemed untouchable to write the story board and narrative that supports that conclusion. If you can torture some data so much the better.

In this case the conclusion is evil Tory bastards + austerity and there’s so much data out there that can be taken out of context not much torture will be required.

  15. “In between the doses of hydroxychloroquine, zinc, vitamins C and D, and taking up smoking again””

Oh, I don’t know? If I was the virus, I’d probably be thinking “OK, back away very slowly, don’t make eye contact”, so maybe there’s something in it…….

  16. BiG, Turns out the evil Trumpster, (who manages to be both an evil genius and a buffoon at the same time), didn’t actually suggest we all inject ourselves with Dettol. He did phrase his points rather clumsily but the liberal media did their usual bang up job of taking his words out of context, putting words in his mouth and cutting his speech up like a ransom note in order to make him look bad.

Good job these guys are looking out for us or we might actually find out something useful from the press conferences.

  17. I was watching the BBC live updates on Trump briefing the other day, it was interesting how the heading and the soundbite didn’t agree and it was clear that even live they were trying to spin the narrative.

  18. In the NHS, my partner has come out of retirement to work in care homes and is training alongside dietitians and speech therapists who have been redeployed to this area which is outside both their comfort zone and skill-set. Meanwhile kids with speech defects are not getting help. Furlough is not permitted in the NHS. And spare a thought for the squaddies building hospitals and setting up logistics for the NHS.

  19. Kevin, I’ve watched the whole thing. I am absolutely speechless. There are not words for his idiocy and ignorance on this. It would be funny under other circumstances.

  20. To correct the original post
“It’s women who are more often redundant” being paid for activities (or inactivities) that do nothing, or less than nothing, for the general weal.
Yes, there are lots of nurses, midwives, professional women who work to our benefit but a vastly disproportionate number of posts that detract from communal wellbeing are filled by women

  21. Kevin, I’ve watched the whole thing. I am absolutely speechless. There are not words for his idiocy and ignorance on this. It would be funny under other circumstances.

He may be inarticulate, but the media are absolutely taking it out of context and running interference for their preferred politicians

Our morally wicked governor Cuomo put a gun to employers’ heads and made a bunch of employees “non-essential”, and then mocked them by telling them to get a job as an essential worker.
