If coronavirus doesn’t discriminate, how come black people are bearing the brunt?
The failure in your argument is that coronavirus does discriminate. As do all diseases that humans are prey to.
Some of us have immune systems that will laugh in the face of this infection here, but will succumb in an instant to that one over there. Others are vice versa. That’s actually what genetic diversity means. It’s how evolution itself works, the environment culling those who are not fit for that environment. It’s what Matt Ridley meant by “The Red Queen”, our immune systems have to run ever harder to stand still against the mutation of things that would like to come eat us. Most European indigenes are pretty much immune to bubonic plague these days as the genes that left people susceptible were culled when a third of the people died of it 650 years ago.
Now, whether coronavirus discriminates specifically either for or against those genes which manage melanin enhancement is unknown and it does seem most unlikely. But across the genetic endowments of the varied subgroups of our species – no, let’s not call them races – there will, absolutely, be some who are more likely to be the prey of this virus and some less so. Just because that’s how genetics works.
All diseases, just like all environments, discriminate. It’s just what they discriminate about that changes.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way what was your point again?
