Planning is difficult

UK garment factories approached by the BBC have said the government does not fully understand what is possible in the UK, and which firms could produce what. This lack of understanding has caused production delays.

Delays around certification of gowns for use is also slowing down the manufacturing process.

Especially if the planners are both incompetent and also exist.

  1. Do the BBC realise that there are over 10 billion SKUs globally, and so the likely number of variants on those could be 10 or 100 times that?

Good. I don’t want the expense of a government that does understand that, to that level of detail.

And in his/her/its heart of hearts, the Beeboid doesn’t either.

  3. “Full understanding” would require the government having detailed knowledge of every garment manufacturer in the UK. The story here is…what?

  4. And then there’s the certification process, bound to be one and no doubt a lack of inspectors and it will require a multi-page checklist of stuff to be filled in and signed off by the supplier and various others, copies of policies that a small manufacturer might not have in place. Inspectors likely only review the form and don’t visit, but still take weeks
The reason for ordering from Turkey and China is that they are pre-certified existing suppliers. Compliance isn’t an issue when you have the certificate, by the time this dies down and they look into dodgy suppliers it will all have been brushed under the carpet and suddenly everyone will be complaint again.
Was discussing increased transport capacity for patients in remote areas with a friend who is a pilot and while retrofitting some
additional planes to take medical carts/equipment could be done quickly the issue would be the number of inspectors and that the inspection process would take weeks if not longer

  5. Ooops, hat tip to BoM4 who already posted a link to an article about certification issues in another thread

I’d imagine asking a buyer from one of the firms wholesale this stuff would solve that problem in about 5 minutes. But that would be too simple. Governments need a committee.
