Some people really don’t like Cummings

The latest evidence:

Alarm in Cabinet that Boris Johnson’s decision to back Dominic Cummings could cost lives

This being nothing to do with any rules about lockdown or anything. Rather, a significant portion of the establishment doesn’t like him. He wants to upset the cosy apple cart. Which is a threat to said establishment, that’s the point. So, something, anything, to get rid of him. Any story that’s even vaguely believable that enough people will coalesce around.

  1. Indeed. And it is for that reason that I hope he stays.

It is a tribute to the abject stupidity of the British press that they have all focused 100% on this, while the lockdown continues to ruin the nation.

  2. It’s a splendid argument, though. Boris’s support for Cummings undermines the police’s ability to enforce the lockdown without which people will die. Oh, rilly?

Nevermind that nowhere that has lifted the lockdown has seen any resurgence of the disease. The great COVID-19 scare is shaping up to be a civilization ending event. Lift the lockdown now. The least we can ask for is to be able to share a beer with our mates as the world ends.

  3. Aaah, but there’s the problem. RdJ is probably right to say lockdown is excessive. So the right response yesterday would have been to ease the lockdown to make it more in line with what DC did, while slapping him on the wrists for preempting it.

Currently, DC and Boris’s other chums can do what they like, while the rest of the country gets threatened by police for driving a couple of miles. It’s Zil lanes in another guise. Fuck that, fuck Cummings and fuck Boris.

  4. Dominic Cummings, (Public school and Oxford) ,is married to the daughter of Sir Humphry Wakefield, 2nd Baronet, of Chillingham Castl. His uncle is Sir John Grant McKenzie Laws, a former Lord Justice of Appeal. He is a posh bluffer who thinks the rest of us are scum.

Our friends both has Covid 19. We did their shopping and washed their clothes. As it is virtually impossible that both should be suddenl and completely incapacitated, we did not worry about their child, but had it come to that suitable care could have been resourced.
I cannot say this would be without concern but if there is one person who even this wildly remote possibility would not worry, it is man who has the Civil, Service on call and lives in a City of 9,000,000.
So lets ignore his schoolboy, lost my homework story; which is falling to pieces anyway. I may not have much intelligence but what I do have insulted to even engage with this transparent crap.

So why does it matter? Well my wife, who has been looking after key worker children, will be back at work full time next week. This is based on the assurance of a government, known to be liars v, that it is safe ( when no such scientific evidence exists ).
Who do you think orchestrated the Press hate campaign against people who have already done their fair share, will shortly be taking considerable chances both with their health and their families ( ie me and my children). Dominic Cummings; a man for whom the rules are for the others, and any lie will do. Well why should we believe a word they say now, its not as if trust was high before ?

Some would say he is a manipulative self serving reptile, but, honestly, I think that gives him too much credit.

He is in the tradition of the clowns who infested UKIP and made it look ridiculous. He is one of those autistic odd bods who cannot get anything requiring a human, right . He should wear the bowtie so we can see him and he sort coming ..and hopefully going. He is a weirdo and his spectacular lack of judgement is of a piece with the UK`s failure on PPE , lock down, testing and dealing with reopening.

I may enjoy myself winding up the the good Volk of this blog but come on…. that does not make black white. Can I ask for a few moments of seriousness,in a a serious time. Cummings is indefensible, you know it as well as I do.

  5. It is a tribute to the abject stupidity of the British press that they have all focused 100% on this

More like unhinged malice than abject stupidity.

  6. I didn’t notice Stephen Kinnock, Labour M.P., Shadow Minister for Asia and the Pacific had resigned after visiting mummy and daddy to celebrate Neil’s birthday. Oh, that’s right – he didn’t (and neither did the Welsh health minister caught enjoying a portion (of chips) over the Bank holiday weekend).

  7. The odds are still against Boris, but I would have hated to see him fall at the first fence.

  8. The Meissen Bison

pneumonia: He is a posh bluffer who thinks the rest of us are scum.

Well if he were, then you’d have to admit that in your case he had a point.

  9. Currently, DC and Boris’s other chums can do what they like, while the rest of the country gets threatened by police for driving a couple of miles.

I sympathise with your view aaa, however the simple fact is that we need both Cummings and Bozza to get Brexit over the line and for that alone I am prepared to let them get away with this. In an ideal world, the COVID clusterfuck would see the end of the New Labour tribute band masquerading as the Tories, ushering in a better alternative. Sadly, the only alternatives are much worse.

If all the Boris/Dom axis achieves is Brexit, I’ll take that. If Cummings manages to annoy the hell out of the uncivil disservice and the meedja as well, then that will be a sweetener.

What I’d like to see, if he still has the energy for it, is Farage come back with a real party dedicated to keeping the Tories honest on Brexit and forcing them to live up to their name a bit. The Brexit Party did pretty well with keeping the nutters out so could be the foundation.

  10. I may not have much intelligence

As you so amply demonstrate with each and every posting, Violet Elizabeth.

PS. Your boo-hoo story doesn’t wash. If your friends had been adhering to the lockdown guidelines they should not have contracted the virus. You attack Cummings but not your friends.

  11. On the contrary, Newmania, it’s perfectly defensible. It is a minor offence committed by hundreds of people every day. Give him a bollocking and move on. The British government does not serve at the pleasure of The Guardian.

  12. As far as I can make out the “rules” he is supposed to have breached are actually guidelines that allow for such journeys as he undertook according to circumstances. Again, as far as I know, he drove with his wife and child up to his parents place in Durham so that his parents could care for the child while he and his wife self isolated for a fortnight, and then drove back to London. As for other people being prosecuted by the police for driving a couple of miles, well that is because the police have, in many cases, made the law up as they went along to give themselves power that was never intended by the legislation.

  13. People are in a panic about a disease with a 99.74% recovery rate. I wonder what they’ll do to react to a disease four time as severe I.e. roughly 99% recovery).

  14. Facepainter–we will never know your record re the LD. You are a crawling cowardly cunt who likely wears two masks and screams with terror every time you fart (it would be nice if you stopped farting out of your mouth tho’). But the Flu was always –like you– a two bit nothing–and lots of folk have ignored it from day one. If there had been places to go the entire LD would have fallen long before now.

Cummings has committed no wrongdoing of any sort. That we are all about to be ruined is the fault of the UK’s cowardly bed-wetters –a large portion of whom are remainiac shite like you-and all those who have submitted to tinpot tyranny.

Were Blojo and his gang solely responsible for all this shit–that would be one thing. But ALL UK political and SCS and MSM slime are in it plus somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the UK population–containing some Brexit supporters but mostly leftist and remainiac sheet-pissing trash like you. Those are the cowardly bedwetters who caused economic ruin and who DESERVE the heavy economic hand about to fall on us. The rest of us do not.

I am glad Tim does not ban even shite like you Face. But I hope that YOU see your cozy well-off remainiac prick bubble burst around your fucking ears. You give scum a bad name and it would be a cosmic injustice if you skipped away with such light punishment as having to watch a WTO Brexit and the utter collapse of your precious EU.

  15. There’s a lot of people ( Tim Farron MP for one ) who think driving 260 miles is part of the issue, as if it might have been ok if it was just 30 miles. This makes no sense. And for a lot of people in Great Britain, that’s a drive they might do several times a month. It’s not a big deal, and it was in a car that virtually drives itself.
Meanwhile, just to wind Newmania up, did you notice the figures last week that the latest EU net migration was an all time high? It can’t be that awful here.

  16. I did find it amusing that none of the journos who mobbed DC on his doorstep over the last couple of days gave a thought to how hypocritical they looked when they were all standing within inches of him and each other, while accusing him of infecting the entire population of the country by driving, isolated in a car with his family, 260 miles. Dim-witted doesn’t begin to describe their blind stupidity.

  17. Bloke in North Dorset

    @KevinS,

He went in to a self contained building and his sister left provisions at the door. The plan was that his sister would look after their child if the both got too ill to do it themselves.

The deputy CMO had mentioned this possibility as an exception a week earlier.

    https://twitter.com/tomhfh/status/1264327097411153922?s=21

The proble, with this and other stories is that a large section of the public, egged on by the MSM, read far more in to the guidelines and advice than was ever intended, hence the overreacting police.

  18. The British government does not serve at the pleasure of The Guardian.

Or the Daily Mail? Or indeed anyone at all. Not a single ‘elected’ MP up to and including Cabinet minsters, could have survived this self inflicted demonstration of arrogance autistic ill judgement and selfish willingness to have other people dead for the sake of a pleasant holiday.
What country are we living in now, some comical Gilbert and Sullivan Dictatorship?
Surely behind these blog personas there are actual people who can see quite how disgraceful this is and might I point out that the Labour Party wants him to stay and face an on going enquiry..the last thing they want is to see him gone
Drag it out …keep him there , another month would do beautifully with Kier Starmer keeping out of it and just continuing to make Johnson look like the inadequate idle inexperienced buffoon we all secretly know he is.

  19. I hate to defend Blojo–but now that Facepaint has his due portion –I have to say that ANY likely replacement would be worse. Johnson–prize fuckwit tho’ he is– might still be capable of some kind of learning process.

A WTO Brexit likely–he will be unsaveable if he gives an inch–and the fact that he seems to have learned over Huawei–which I did not expect–suggest he CAN change to a degree. He is still the best of a VERY,VERY,VERY bad lot. Despite being fool enough to listen to SCS scum who hate him and are –along with Gate’s money–the real source of any “influence” Professor Pantsdown had.

He might yet–once the bill is obvious –have the sense to cancel HSR2 and the massive handouts planned.

At any rate ALL other politically possible replacements would be worse.

So Bloj better stand up to the media storm over Cummings. Because if he falls at that then far,far worse is on the way. It will be a media/political storm from scum who were at the heart of the germ hysteria whose economic results they will soon be cursing. But they are such hypocrites that will not matter.

  20. The only way to sort out the BBC / Guardian / Labour / Blue Labour / civil service media complex is to feed it to Dominic Cummings, if he is caught buggering the Archbishop of Canterbury with a prize winning marrow on top of Admiralty Arch for all to see, I am cool with it.

  21. Fucking Stumour Facepaint? The same moron who all along has denounced Blojo’s hysteria as not hysterical enough.

You like him because you think he is Bliarite scum who will look after middle class leftist EU crawling ordure like you but piss on the ordinary people that the Labour Party has been pissing on since Bliar arrived on the scene. Prior to that they were enemies of ALL other classes–but Bliar arrived to stick ZaNu’S pole up the arse of middle class Marxist slime like you.

If fact the corpse-rotted dick of socialism has gone so far up middle-class offal like you that nowadays it serves you as a second tongue with which to peddle your poison.

  22. if you skipped away with such light punishment as having to watch a WTO Brexit and the utter collapse of your precious EU.

A WTO Brexit is almost certain due the the UK making demands they have repeatedly been told are impossible, so it looks as if you will get your wish Ecks.If you enjoy the sight of families struggling with long term unemployment then I guess its more giggles for you.

  23. “Surely behind these blog personas there are actual people who can see quite how disgraceful this is”

What? Trying to protect a child by making sure he has care? Travelling, seemingly without any stops, staying in an isolated house near family.

Even if you don’t think it was the right call, do you think he was just going up there on a jolly? Can you at least say that it was done for good, sincere reasons, but perhaps the wrong solution? Can people stop asking dumb questions like “why didn’t he take him to his brother-in-law 5 miles away?” as if Cummings deliberately added 250 miles for no good reason. I’m going to guess there was a good reason, like his brother-in-law doesn’t have a spare house.

And yeah, maybe sitting in a metal box for 260 miles for 5 hours might have caused some spreading within the family that days of earlier contact didnt, but that’s a balance of risk question. Possibly get it in that period vs not having childcare.

The media is full of twats saying things like “I couldn’t go to my brothers funeral, but he can do this”. And I have no fucking idea how people compare these two things. I’m not even sure I agree with the lockdown on funerals, but grieving for a dead person is not as important as making sure that a 4 year old is taken care of. Funerals aren’t about protecting life.

And then there’s the nobs saying “he broke the rules”. For one thing, the advice seems to be that under certain circumstances, like protecting small children, this is fine, but also, we are never, ever slaves to the law. People break all sorts of laws for a higher moral purpose.

  24. Sack Cummings.
Immediately ennoble him and bring him into Cabinet.
Replace him as an advisor with Farage.
Watch toll of Exploding Head syndrome trying not to split sides.

  25. “A WTO Brexit is almost certain due the the EU making demands they have repeatedly been told are impossible…”

    fixed that for you

  26. And then there’s the nobs saying “he broke the rules”.

So the rule actually was that if you have children and symptoms then you should travel to wherever in the country seems most pleasant?

Amazing how this was universally misunderstood, and staggering that when Cummings wife wrote that they emerged blinking into the London daylight ..she omitted the fact they have in fact isolated in Durham.
Again astonishing how many people wilfully misunderstood this statement to mean they had stayed in London.

It almost as if she knew perfectly well you were not allowed to spread the virus around the country for the sake a of a nice picnic at a local beauty spot no matter how many people you killed…..

  27. Newmania,
I realise you want this burogenic catastrophe to last as long as possible, but it’s over. The last person to die of COVID-19 (of, not with) has probably already been infected.

Incidentally, if your missus is waiting for it to be *completely* safe to go back to work, does that mean you are prepared to sit indoors untill the bank repossesses your house?

  28. The last person to die of COVID-19 (of, not with) has probably already been infected.

That does not fit the facts as I understand them. we know about 36,000 are dead and we can guess that maybe 3m may have been infected about 4.4% of the population. As something like 60 % would be required to have a level of immunity to acquire herd immunity we are a very long way short of that position.
Mrs N is a gung-ho sort and not the least worried about going to work as a matter of fact, I have no idea what point you are making.
Overall the effort must be to open the maximum amount of the economy whilst maintaining the maximum viscosity in the human network.
If everyone plays their part we can make the best of it hrough to then end of next year by which time we must hope for at least a level of preventative meds. It relies entirely on people using their own sense and not behaving stupidly and selfishly

Which brings me back to Dominic Cummings ……..

  29. I think Cummings was a naughty boy, but seeing the spittle flying off the reddened faces of Newmania and Piers Morgan makes it worthwhile (be careful not to spread it, sad sacks).

Hopefully press hysteria stoking public anger will lead to the collapse the lockdown. If so, Cummings can be knighted.

  30. I must say in passing that watching the mendacious jokers in government, who appear to be nothing more than PR people for the real decision makers, has given me a lot more sympathy for the Germans that voted NSDAP. I’d be tempted to vote for a nutter with a toothbrush moustache at this point too.

  31. No 36000 dead from CCPvirus you Facepainting dickwad. Dead –the vast maj–from something else with your favourite media scum screaming –deceitfully –that it was CCP. Increasingly it looks as if CCP isn’t even a bad winter flu.

“If you enjoy the sight of families struggling with long term unemployment then I guess its more giggles for you.”

First of all –that is going to happen BECAUSE of economic ruin caused by the fuckwit LD resulting from the flu hysteria scum like you spread and are still trying to spread.

Secondly- Brexit will massively promote the well-being of the UK–even if it now only means we are free to chart our own course through world-wide economic ruin caused by cowardly scum like you.

The rest of your shite is tired old remainiac cockrot that even hard-core liars and scumbags like you don’t and never did believe.

  32. Newmania,
I am looking at the down curve of deaths and guessing it’ll be within a rounding error of zero in about four weeks time. Four weeks from infection to the list of dead. Do you see?

  33. Cummings is great for entertainment value alone, if he actually gets anything done in government that’ll be a bonus.

However, Boris missed a trick perhaps. Labour stupidly offered him an “out” by demanding an inquiry. Should’ve gone for that, with the exoneration to be published long after Chinese Virus has departed the news cycle, unless he’s serious about Trumping the press.

They’ll try to make all news items, all the time, about Cummings now. 24/7 updates and news flashes on the Geordie Moriarty.

The legend of Mad Bilbo Cummings, who personally spat Covid into every baby and pensioner’s mouth from London to Longframlington, has already slipped the surly bonds of plausibility and entered the wankonomicon of Lefty mythmaking alongside such other funny stories as “austerity ate my hamster” and “Jacob Rees-Mogg did Grenfell”.

  34. “then you should travel to wherever in the country seems most pleasant”

We know you’re just pissing yourself trolling, but have you any idea how fucking stupid that comment is. It’s where he originally comes from (home), it’s where a lot of his family are all still based (support), and it’s where there was separate spare accommodation available (isolation). It does in fact tick rather a lot of boxes?

    “seems most pleasant”

    Idiot.

  35. “Amazing how this was universally misunderstood, and staggering that when Cummings wife wrote that they emerged blinking into the London daylight ..she omitted the fact they have in fact isolated in Durham.
Again astonishing how many people wilfully misunderstood this statement to mean they had stayed in London.”

Mary’s a smart girl, she knows exactly what you lot are like!

  36. Newms writes – If you enjoy the sight of families struggling with long term unemployment then I guess its more giggles for you.

Would we believe you are consumed with concern for the people you were calling “fat white morons” yesterday?

    Lol, no.

A liar needs a good memory.

  37. What interests me is what is/was going to happen soon that this ludicrous shit-storm is an attempt to derail/deflect. The Cummings’ bolt happened back in March and was known about. This has been pushed into the narrative for a reason.

  38. Steve, indeed. Not long ago Violet Elizabeth Newmania was hoping for and rejoicing in the deaths of the elderly who had the temerity to vote for Brexit.

  39. BoM4 – The media is full of twats saying things like “I couldn’t go to my brothers funeral, but he can do this”.

Never understood this – who’s physically stopping them from going to a funeral? If you want something to happen, you make it happen like the A Team, no? Rules are just a social construct.

  40. ‘He wants to upset the cosy apple cart. Which is a threat to said establishment, that’s the point. So, something, anything, to get rid of him.’

The problem with this is implies he’s actually being effective at it.

  41. The Meissen Bison

    Pneums: …as I understand them.

That’s at the root of your problem on most things, though obviously not your personal hygiene, gum disease and obsession with bungalows.

Here’s a poser, though, which will occur first: the end of lockdown or the EU 27 all agreeing to ratify the emergency €500bn corona facility?

    Hint: end of lockdown.
Spoiler: because the €500bn corona facility will die and shrivel in the long grass.

  42. This has been pushed into the narrative for a reason.

To shift focus from the lockdown clusterfuck? The opposition and media are pathetically easy to bait and, if I might respectfully disagree with Rob above, this is because they are morons (or in Taleb’s intellectual but idiot category).

Meanwhile, I suspect the Venn digram of ‘Tory MPs demanding Dom is sacked’ and ‘Tory MPs Dom has called an imbecile’ would show significant overlap.

There will always be some lackwits on twatter claiming they stayed at home, bedridden from COVID, while their kids starved, I find that most people really don’t care. People think: ‘Well if it was my children, sod the lockdown.’

I’m on a chat group with my old London mates, most of whom are wealthy Remainers working in financial services (the sort of people Moronia fantasises about being). They’re still annoyed about Brexit and deeply frustrated by the lockdown, they hate Boris and Dom. However, none of them give a shit about this story. Anecdata I know, but I’d wager this is another topic where the mainstream and social media noise obscures what most people actually think.

I also notice more and more people are breaching the lockdown in minor ways as Kinnock jnr did. Because they’ve had enough of this shit.

  43. MC – I also notice more and more people are breaching the lockdown in minor ways as Kinnock jnr did.

I’ve been driving about in my car blasting KILLING IN THE NAME OF every day of this bollocks.

Because “Fuck You, I Won’t Do What You Tell Me” is always a great message whether it’s Covid or Council-mandated recycling, and because I’m slightly deaf.

  44. Thanks to all (especially Ecksy) for a bloody good larf!

    @ Newmonia
    “Mrs N is a gung-ho sort”
She fucking must be to put up with you…

  45. Newmaniac: “Our friends both has Covid 19. We did their shopping and washed their clothes.”

Shopping OK, but washing? Unless you followed full biohazard procedures (and I doubt you know what that really means) you and your wife have been totally irresponsible given that you claim she has been looking after other peoples’ children.

  46. Confession time: I’ve breached the lockdown pretty much every week since it began. Shopping unnecessarily and taking more than one walk per day when I felt like it.

    Because guidelines are just that.

  47. A thought occurs.

Have Dominic Cummings and Mr Ecks ever been seen in the same place at the same time?

  48. Henry – Yarp. He fails at concern trolling.

JuliaM – Do you have a Lockdown playlist in your car? I’ve been enjoying:

Breaking The Law – Judas Priest
    Freedom 90 – George Michael
    It’s Alright – East 17
We’re Not Gonna Take It – Twisted Sister
Nothing But A Good Time – Poison

  49. I’m not worried about Cummings – he seems mentally very tough and has a FU-attitude – but Boris wants to please and avoid confrontation.

  50. Does *anyone* believe that Dominic Cummings would have been allowed to self-isolate in London? Guido has pictures of small mobs of left-wing hacks ignoring “social distancing” surrounding his front door, morning, afternoon and evening. It was separately reported (I forget where) that a neighbour had called the police to complain about them.

  51. Steve,

“Cummings is great for entertainment value alone, if he actually gets anything done in government that’ll be a bonus.”

He (and Gove) got free schools done, about the only thing that was achieved under Cameron in the direction of more choice, more freedom, making the country a better place.

My favourite parallel is Colonel Walter Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. The guy who actually understands how to win Vietnam. Most of the military brass give more of a shit about how the war looks, about the bureaucracy, about their titles and careers. Like Kurtz, Cummings wants to achieve things. He’s motivated and focussed. He doesn’t give a shit about all the bonus bullshit like titles, pissing people off or his short term job. The goal is more important.

  52. Newms is nothing but inventive but this one really made me think: “maintaining the maximum viscosity in the human network”.

What could that sequence of words actually mean. Wiki has the answer: “The viscosity of a fluid is a measure of its resistance to deformation at a given rate. For liquids, it corresponds to the informal concept of “thickness”.

Yes, he’s talking about himself again, the poor deranged fool

  53. Tom Petty –“Won’t back down”?

Was fortunate to hear him perform in a bar in Texas back in the early ’80s. But given what everyone was smoking and drinking back then, what we actually saw or heard is somewhat subjective.

  54. I’ve said before that hypocrisy is overrated as a sin (Tim N even riffed a blog post about it). Unfortunately hypocrisy is politically and psychologically powerful. If someone says something they’ve been hypocritical about (“stay at home”, when you know they’ve let their mate off for not doing so) then no matter how strong the evidence and reasoning behind their exhortation, it loses its emotional persuasiveness because it is undermined by their hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is also convenient as a political attack, because it allows you to score points irrespective of your own personal views and regardless of the inclinations of the audience you’re attempting to persuade. Both someone in favour of the lockdown and someone opposed to it can attack the government for hypocrisy over it. So this one could run and run and run and run and run.

If I see a chink of light, it’s that the original “stay at home OR YOU AND YOUR GRANNY WILL ALL DIE TERRIBLE DEATHS” messaging was, if anything, rather too influential. A lot of people seem to have given up making rational, informed, personal decisions over their own management of the risk, and as the elements of the lockdown get lifted this residual paranoia is going to whack both the economy and the social fabric. If there’s a sense of the government mindlessly imposing draconian rules over the rest of us while letting their own get away with whatever they like, that’s clearly unhelpful for them politically – but if it helps people see that risk is nuanced, you have to make your own choices, guidelines are guidelines not a comprehensive instruction manual of every potential scenario… that might have some benefits.

  55. Gamecock said weeks ago that the lockdowns were illegal (in the U.S.). The people generally went along with it because they felt it was a good thing to do. As time went by, many people decided it wasn’t a good idea anymore. Suits have been filed. Results are coming in:

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/05/24/ohio-judge-deems-states-coronavirus-lockdown-illegal/

Here’s one that is going to get mega attention:

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/05/24/chicago-mayor-launches-police-raid-shut-down-black-church/

Churches are directly protected by the Constitution. Chicago mayor has grossly misplayed her hand. Closing a gym and closing a church are very different things.

  56. “Who do you think orchestrated the Press hate campaign against people who have already done their fair share”

Ah yes – here he is orchestrating the (entirely socially non-distant) press. https://mobile.twitter.com/darrengrimes_/status/1264669957230649348?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-7013502234083733132.ampproject.net%2F2005151844001%2Fframe.html

Master press Svengali. They must have been listening to his instructions intently as they harassed him on the street.

You do know that there are dozens of other politicians, spads and press officers in government, and in particular the Dept of Education? Apart from his history fighting the education ‘blob’ there’s no particular reason to think he is spending any time on the issue you cite at the moment. His enemies attribute so much to him…

The fact is that he did not do anything illegal.

Unnecessary travel is prohibited. The guidance is quite clear on two points; visiting a second home does not count as necessary. Accessing childcare (or indeed care for any vulnerable person) does. That’s why you haven’t seen floods of media sob stories about parents unable to take children to relatives.

  57. BoM4 – I like the free schools idea, but as far as I can tell it’s had about the same impact as a fart in the ocean.

    Ecksy – Tune.

MBE – Yarp. I’m not convinced Boris has the balls to keep telling the press to fuck off over Cummings, which is why he would’ve probably been better off announcing an inquiry to kick it into the long grass, and could easily be weaponised against his enemies (just make it a general “standards in public life” type witch-hunt)

I see DomCum is going to make a public statement – this is probably not a good idea.

  58. @MyBurningEars
I agree with you that hypocrisy is overrated; however I don’t think here hypocrisy is the issue. On the one hand, Cummings has told Boris that the only way out of the Coronavirus crisis is to buttfuck the economy by telling people like me that I can’t do any of the things that I like to do. Cummings/Boris are then going to hand the economic bill for this buttfuckery to me to pay. On the other hand, Cummings’s revealed preference is that this isn’t that bad because he’s clearly happy to waltz all around the country without even so much as a do-you-mind.

If it’s really that bad, they should behave like it’s that bad. Stay at home/isolate if you have symptoms. If it’s not that bad, why the fuck have they ruined my summer and made me pay for the damage?

  59. Former British citizens are being beaten up by the police while a repressive government tears apart the rule of law, and what do we see in the UK media? Hong Kong? That’s yesterday’s news, CRUCIFY CUMMINGS! MOAR AUTHORITARIANISM! LOCK UP THE POPULOUS!!!111!!!

  60. I see DomCum is going to make a public statement

The statement should be short and to the point. “Fuck off” should cover it.

  61. If it really was Cummings who infected Boris with the lockdown notion then he can fuck off into the ditch.

  62. If it really was Cummings who infected Boris with the lockdown notion then he can fuck off into the ditch.

  63. @aaa

I don’t think here hypocrisy is the issue.

Serious question – if you’re distinguishing this issue from “hypocrisy”, what would you call it instead? It’s certainly a gap between what he’s saying (and, as you point out, also what he’s expecting you to put up with – which perhaps takes it above the level of mere hypocritical hectoring) versus what he’s doing…

  64. Wife went to church for the first time now we have new guidelines and the priest asked them to be very careful about following rules especially when leaving as they had already had a complaint about a recent funeral. Someone complained that the pall bearers weren’t distanced enough and that someone hugged the grieving mother whose daughter was being buried. The fear is that the diocese will stop services if they have complaints not the police or authorities who have edged around ‘suggesting’ religious services are limited.
Truly a fucked up world we live in that people will complain about this, most probably someone nearby who has been happy to see the church closed for a couple of months.

  65. What evidence–apart from various Marxist bullshiters –than Cummings is the “architect” of the lockdown?

  66. @Newmania

“I may enjoy myself winding up the the good Volk of this blog”

    Dream on troll!

All you’re doing is projecting your inadequacies. This is what trolls do and you are textbook.

There’s never any shortage of Pavel Morozovs. Unfortunately we can’t deal with them the same way.

  68. Steve,

“I like the free schools idea, but as far as I can tell it’s had about the same impact as a fart in the ocean.”

Maybe. It’s still a bigger fart than anything else. And 390 schools so far, another 310 being developed.

  69. Funny, innit?

One minute our esteemed government risks exposure as France’s cross Channel ferry gimp.

The next, a two month old story about dodgy internal migration is all the news.

I suspect the once and future Duke of Brussels can shed light on this.

Cummings did nothing wrong. In Left & Remoaners he’s guilty as he secured Brexit

  71. The biggest issue the press seemed to have was that it wasn’t fair that he had somewhere else to go and he should apologise to all those families that don’t have a spare cottage at hand.
Was impressed how he kept his cool through the press conference, though I did like his little digs that the media targeting his house had been part of the decision.

  75. Looks like Cummings hasn’t backed down and the leading lights of our broadcast meedja failed to land a punch.

I am disappointed to see people like Delingpole getting hissy about this. If your twitter rants are in line with Alistair Campbell, you ought to have a think about what you’re doing. Cummings’ scalp would be a major win for those seeking to undermine the government and overturn Brexit.
