Speaking truth to power

Wow, Slate is really picking up that journalistic obligation to the general public, isn’t it?

  1. Most of us are too young to remember the heady optimism of the days when letting women vote, go to university, and wear clothes was going to lead to an amazing explosion in human knowledge as we unshackled the brilliance of a previously subjugated half of the population. When women could – finally – take their rightful place as equals who knew what brilliant innovations and philosophical breakthroughs they’d help us unleash?

    Let’s check in on how that’s going…

In a pathmarking 2017 study, Justice Interrupted: The Effect of Gender, Ideology, and Seniority at Supreme Court Arguments, Tonja Jacobi and Dylan Schweers showed that female Justices may be three times more likely to be interrupted than male Justices

Holy fuck, that moment when you realise Muslims and Sid the Sexist were right all along.

    Tits oot for the lions.

  2. Does the study list which judges drone on and on the longest?

Whether they are either sex, I bet the windbaggiest get interrupted the most.

  3. Here, the general rule is that you don’t interrupt the judge.

Quite apart from anything else, he just might be itching to agree with you.

That goes equally for female judges.

  4. Well it bloody well cant be the black dude since he never says a word. So it can’t very well be wacist

I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. I have listened to some SC oral arguments before and there seems to be a lot of give and take between the lawyers and the justices. In that sort of atmosphere one person’s interruption could very well be someone else’s answer, question or comment.

Did the article explain how Jacobi and Schweers defined the term “interrupted”?
