The initiative, laid out in a draft law to be tabled in parliament this week proposes a flat income tax rate of 7% for foreign retirees who transfer their tax residence to Greece. The incentive would be applicable for a decade.
It’s zero percent here.
I know a year or so ago Finnish govt shafted the Finns living in Portugal, I am not a tax expert but they terminated the tax agreement between them and Portugal. Also started taxing pensions at source ie in Finland.
I didn’t think anyone paid tax in Greece.

Nigger was a black labrador retriever belonging to Wing Commander Guy Gibson of the RAF, and the mascot of No. 617 Squadron of Dambuster fame. Nigger’s grave is at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire. This month, the headstone was replaced, with Nigger’s name removed. The RAF said it “did not want to give prominence to an offensive term that went against its ethos”.
Sign here if you think Nigger’s name should be reinstated on his gravestone:

Sod petitions, Theo.
And sod lions. And lampposts.
Flamethrowers are the way forward. Plus dogs. Dogs with flamethrowers.
Petitions and flamethrowers are not mutually exclusive, Luddy.
Think you’d need to discuss that with the dog in question, Theo
@TW
Why not UK instead?

The chances of any black person reading Nigger’s headstone in order to be offended are minimal. It’s in Lincolnshire. In the countryside.
I’m offended that Nigger is described as black. He was just a very, very, dark grey dog.
Sailing. Greece has an imperial ton of tiny islands in fairly calm waters, ideal for pottering around. Portugal doesn’t.
Other than that, my guess is that the move really wants to attract Greek expats, even second-generation. I can see them jumping at the opportunity.
Technical question: is it easy for Greek Cypriots to get Greek citizenship? Would they then count as Greek expats?
“ Sailing. Greece has an imperial ton of tiny islands in fairly calm waters, ideal for pottering around. Portugal doesn’t.”
They’re mostly motorhomes on water, not much sailing goes on. The katabatibc winds in many places can make it quite scary and they have some ferocious storms. The best places are also rammed full at the best times of the year.
From what I gather most of the livaboards over there are more interested in being part of the marina set than sailing and exploring.
But your point ref Portugal still stands, the Atlantic seaboard is not for the faint-hearted but there’s a couple of members of the sailing forum I use who moved there so it isn’t all bad.
I should add that I’m a sailing snob, I have a sail boat with an auxiliary engine and regard using the engine other than to get in and out of berths as failure. I’m also a Yorkshireman and regard the wind as free.
This morning I was a failure, I was 5 miles south of Durleston Head and was heading for Studland Bay in a 15kt northerly, sadly no choice but it broke my heart.
