Idiot is idiot

Again, this ignores the fact that shale is destroying itself. Not only are renewables cheaper now, but shale delivery is over shorter time spans than forecast, fundamentally undermining is economics. It isn’t taking Biden to undermine shale: it’s simply not viable.

That, the rapidly falling cost of renewables and the possibility of funding the transition at net zero interest cost

If renewables are cheaper then no funding of the transition is necessary. It’s something that will happen naturally as people install the cheaper option.

And, of course, if renewables are in fact now cheaper then we’ve already solved climate change, haven’t we?

  1. But we know that renewables are really very expensive. Those cheap windfarms now being built are taking a bet that electricity prices will rise so that they can renege on their contracts and charge the much higher market price instead. Investors in those farms deserve to lose their shirts. But I expect the clowns in government will bail them out instead of suing them as hard as legally possible

  2. ‘the rapidly falling cost of renewables’

Pretty soon, electricity will be too cheap to bother with metering it.

  3. ISTM that the direct comparison of renewable energy against conventional energy is not valid, all the time you need to cover the intermittent gaps in the first by using the second. The cost of the backup has to be accounted for too.

    Paging Mr Newman …

  5. ‘Addolff, does shadenfreude make me a bad person?’

Gamecock: Since the Californians foisted renewables on the rest of us, it shows you’re really just too sweet and kind.

  6. Cheaper After subsidies and backup for when not working included?

    No. He’s a liar

Peeps who want organic food pay full price for it
Peeps who want renewable power should be doing same

  7. Gamecock, not at all, but rather than revel in their misery I wish they would recognise the insanity of what they are doing and bloody stop it.
However, despite the high cost of their power, the annual PG & E caused wildfires razing peoples homes to the ground and the survivors having no air con, these people are mad and will push for more of the same.

  8. @ Diogenes
*cheaper*, please – not “cheap”. They are still utterly dependent upon subsidies paid via consumers from the reliable conventional power stations which ought to be getting a premium price for reliability on the lines of the old British Oxygen “take or pay” contracts.

  9. “the annual PG & E caused wildfires razing peoples homes to the ground”

As I understand it, people build homes in a kindling forest, and the baizuo keep them from clearing a fire break around their homes.
