Just a thought

Shanita Hubbard is an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania

An adjunct (in English, temporary lecturer at a technical college) is the sort of leading member of the community that gets OpEdsin a national newspaper to explain their politiacl views? Or this is a sign of how far down the tree the Guardian has had to go to find someone black willing to defend Kamala?

  1. There was me assuming it might be the Northampton just next door to Corby…. The author of “A Woman’s Guide to Hip-Hop” …

It’s going to be fun watching the Guardian’s inevitable fanboi smorgasbord for Biden/Harris – they will no doubt rise to the challenge huh?

  2. Bloke in North Dorset

I’ve been seeing loads of Tweets calling out people who’d been pillorying Harris over her attitude to jailing blacks who are now falling over themselves to claim their undying and everlasting support as she’s the best person ever for the job.

  3. Given how poorly she fared in the primaries it is a bit weird to see people claiming that she represents the future or that, a la Dick Cheney, she’ll be the real power behind the thrown.

  4. Wait until someone notices she failed to prosecute the kiddie diddler cases against the San Francisco Catholic Diocese her predecessor as DA had carefully assembled evidence for. How will the media defend that?

  5. I’d have no objection to having a Jamaican/Tamil president: I would object to having that Jamaican/Tamil president.

  6. OT, but still the Guardian. A new twist in their increasingly desperate begging tactics

83 days to save the Earth …

… we’re all in. Are you? On November 4, a day after the presidential election, the US will formally withdraw from the Paris agreement on constraining global heating. It’s urgent that we tell the world what this means, and the Guardian is pulling out all the stops to do so. Will you help us by supporting our journalism?

    Both.

But only if said adjunct is willing to further the Approved Narrative.

  8. @ Tim
Not a technical college – a community college. What technical college lectures third-rate students on criminal justice? They may call it “social engineering” but it definitely is *not* a STEM subject.
Technical colleges were a Good Thing.

    Grifters gotta grift.

Perhaps they should come up with a way for companies and individuals to pledge their support for SAVING THE EARTH… How about a Fair Climate Mark?

  10. I expect our USian readers are well aware, but I’ve seen very little coverage of how Kamala’s (no, me neither) glittering career got started. She was the (very public) girlfriend of the then married mayor of San Francisco (the notorious Willie Brown, over 30 years her senior) when she magically got on the ticket to be city DA.

An icon for third wave feminism and no mistake.

  11. It feels there’s a lot of hubris around Trump’s chances on the comments in this blog lately. Sleepy Joe isn’t the candidate I’d pick to win, but neither is Orange Man.

Yeah, I agree though this was a bizarre pick in some ways. She’s got a lot of baggage despite ticking the boxes, and its not clear what she does for the base or the swing voters given she sends mixed messages to both.

I have to say though – sometimes women who sleep their way to the top are surprisingly competent. Because that ambition means they’ll do what it takes to get a result. Not all, mind you! Just more than you’d expect.

  12. in English, temporary lecturer at a technical college

In *American* English – someone who spent 8 years getting a PhD with the goal of teaching without realizing how competitive the tenure track really is and and being completely unwilling to face reality and move into industry to make some money.

To think, once upon a time adjuncts were mostly industry veterans come back to share some of their real-world experiences with students. Now they’re part-time teachers barely making any money.

  13. “it’s not clear what she does for the base”

She’s black. She’s Indian. She’s a woman. Just being herself will bring a lot of voters to the ballot boxes.

  14. So Much For Subtlety

Joe Biden August 13, 2020 at 7:06 pm – “C’mon Man! If you aint been prosecuted by my running mate, you ain’t black!”

    +1

The interesting thing is that Kamala presumably does not believe in jailing criminals. She did what she had to do to be politically viable. But times change so fast. Being hard on crime used to be politically necessary. Now it is politically toxic.

Or rather the media believed one and now it is pushing the other. Both speak to American voting communities. But which is larger?

  15. It’s also a factor of how few tenured academic jobs are handed out these days. And that in America, every 2 hours a week honorary research assistant is called “Professor”.

  16. Or Commander, some ditzy with a PhD. in a phony social “science” or heaven forbid EdD. as Jill Biden is, gets called Doctor out in public.

    Yawn

The links are germane and for information, watch if interested, if not don’t watch

Unlike others I don’t post untitled YT links that need to be opened to see if of interest

Nor “read/watched ‘interesting’ about xyz…” but I’m not providing the link
