Seriously absurd political analysis

Thus, it’s here, between skeptical support for Joe Biden and overwhelming opposition to Donald Trump, that progressives chart their future. For two presidential cycles, Sen. Bernie Sanders ignited and expanded the progressive left. Now organizers and activists seek to build on that working-class coalition…

Anyone who thinks that the progressive left in the US is working class is a loon. The working class over there are the ones wearing the MAGA hats ‘n’driving pick up trucks to go huntin’.

It’s the same divide as thinking that Jezza was popular among the British working class….

It is interesting how the Democratic party has become an alliance between the under-class of Blacks, single mothers and illegals from south of the border, together with the super-wealthy.

You get people like George Soros trying to put as many Black criminals on the streets as possible. Even the Ford Foundation.

We are seeing the death of ideology in America. All that matters is race. One race votes one way. The others something different.

  2. The Democrats have managed to align the white working class’s interests with those of their employer’s management and investors. They still haven’t figured out that targeting an industry for extinction might do that.

While the stereotypical pickup driving, huntin’ and fishin’ rural working class white guy does exist still in substantial numbers, the working class is probably much more urban and diverse. Where I am much of the blue collar working class is Hispanic. In other parts of the country it may be more black and Hispanic. I’m not sure these groups have quite realized that their economic interests are more aligned with those of the white working class than not, but when they finally do the Dems have a problem.

  3. Having had a petulant thirteen-year old in the White House to hate, the wisdom of the Dems is to run against him a chap whose mental age has sunk back to eight and might well reach zero by November.

Somehow the working class are meant not to notice. They must think they’re thick.

Anyway if everything goes spectacularly wrong they could get President Nancy Pelosi on January 20th.

Is there still time for a Hillary coup?

  4. The error seems, both here and there, to consist of believing that the people that you patronise and treat with condescension actually support you.

Slightly off topic but still speaking of absurd political analysis – I am enjoying the Guardian trying to work out how to blame Boris for the problems in Brexit negotiations. Barnier is not making it easy for them.

I still expect a sell out but it will be extra-cruel when it happens because I am beginning to hope Britain will crash out with no deal

  6. Every competent business should have considered the likelihood of a no deal outcome, added it to their risk register, and gone ‘meh’.

  7. “Having had a petulant thirteen-year old in the White House”

I’m not certain that isn’t a bad thing. It’s the little boy who pointed out that the emperor was naked because he didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to say it.

Lots of what Trump has done has been criticised with vague references to historical norms. Like how dare he tell the Germans to pay their share of NATO costs, we’ve always subsidised the Germans. Or how date he close down much of the post office, we’ve always had a post office. Or how they should be intervening in wars, because that’s what we do, or that we’ve always let in lots of illegal immigrants.
He seems to be like fresh eyes on all of this, which is probably why the establishment hates him.

You know, how good were all his erudite predecessors who expanded Fannie Mae, or went into Iraq. Trump might lack manners but bottom line, looking after the people, he seems to do a reasonable job.

  8. @ SMFS, One race votes one way.

Except, that it appears not. The black vote is apparently abandoning the Dems. Given that it has been ordinary black people who suffered during the recent rioting and black people being murdered, they look like responding by voting for Trump. If they do, it’s in the bag.

My late wife watched Trump’s election with undisguised amusement. She would say “watch him kick over the anthills.” If she was alive now, she would be much amused to see that he has done just that.

I don’t know why, but the Dems seem blind to the large and growing black middle class. They may not be raging MAGA Trump supporters but they really don’t like the condescending tone of the Dems and they’ve been disgusted by what has happened in the BLM riots with black businesses being looted by the spoilt brats of white middle and upper class liberals. Coleman Hughes recently pointed out that all these books that the left are demanding whites read are racist. Biden’s “if you vote Trump you ain’t black” jibe really didn’t go down well.

Well, that’s the impression I get from listening to a few of them on Twitter and podcasts.

  11. It’s not the black vote that should worry Trump, it’s the boxes of postal votes which will keep on being “discovered” in marginal states until the desired result is achieved some time after Christmas.

The same applies in spades (no pun intended) for any marginal congressional seats.

  12. BiND,

It’s understandable that for a time, blacks voted for blacks (which were generally dems). America was pretty racist and making sure you had one of your own mattered.

You just have to look at the history of politics, and US culture to see that this is a problem that’s going away. Companies spend serious money on movies with black lead characters (like Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse) because the audience has changed. The more that black people feel comfortable that white people aren’t going to lynch them or treat them badly, the more they’re going to vote in a colour-blind way.

  13. A trial run of Biden/Dems running USA again

New York City is a Sh*thole

PJW missed the part where the NYC mayor is buying up property that had its property value crushed by all this

“The mayor of NYC is killing the city and he’s an idiot.” – NYC resident that votes straight Democrat party ticket in every election.
    You reap what you sow….

Cumou & de Blasio double down

    @dearieme
“petulant thirteen-year old in the White House” – where on your scale are Meghan & Harry?

Trump is best POTUS since Reagan and with UK PM & Gov’t support would have achieved a lot more

    @John
+1 and for all that claim “no evidence of postal vote fraud” – refer them to Tower Hamlets, London and Project Veritas

Why do you think they are blind to them? They support Affirmative Action for Blacks so that they can go to Harvard. That is not the sort of thing that appeals to Ghetto Blacks.

“They may not be raging MAGA Trump supporters but they really don’t like the condescending tone of the Dems and they’ve been disgusted by what has happened in the BLM riots with black businesses being looted by the spoilt brats of white middle and upper class liberals.”

The Black middle class is not the same as the White middle class. A White guy who runs a Fruit shop is not the same as a Black woman who works at the DMV. The Black middle class is mainly a creation of government job programmes. Naturally they are not keen on lower taxes. Or put it this way, the last time Blacks rioted en masse, White southerners were so disgusted they came over to the Republicans. But Blacks did not.

Bloke on M4 August 22, 2020 at 10:12 pm – “It’s understandable that for a time, blacks voted for blacks (which were generally dems). America was pretty racist and making sure you had one of your own mattered.”

Which is why Blacks used to vote Republican. The party that opposed racism. But they went over to the Democrats when it was the party of the KKK! They did not care about the racists they were voting for. Racism is not the issue.

“The more that black people feel comfortable that white people aren’t going to lynch them or treat them badly, the more they’re going to vote in a colour-blind way.”

That seems remarkably naive to me. The BLM people marching through White suburbs saying “give me your house” don’t fear the police much less White people lynching them. They have learned that if they threaten White people, White people give them cash – and lead roles in films. Why would they stop threatening White people?

They are perfectly comfortable with the idea that White people have stuff. They want it. Threats of violence and actual violence gets them said stuff. Why would they ever stop? See Zimbabwe.

Longrider August 22, 2020 at 3:30 pm – “The black vote is apparently abandoning the Dems.”

So I hear. I will believe it when I see it. They keep saying this about Jews. And the Republicans are making in roads into the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. But still two thirds of them vote for the Democrats. You know, the party of Ilhan Omar. Trump is the most philo-semitic President ever. I bet he won’t do much better than 33% of the Jewish vote.

When society is divided by race, everyone votes their race. The Democrats were offered the chance to pick one of several billionaires. People who should have been Republicans in any sane system. Michael Bloomberg, Tom Steyer, the Starbucks guy. As well as the choice of a mere millionaire like Bernie Sanders.

Bloomberg used to pretend to be a Republican but what are the rest doing sharing a platform with Cory Booker? Apart from Bloomberg who probably has a lot to talk to Booker about. Shoes for instance. Closets. That sort of thing.

“Given that it has been ordinary black people who suffered during the recent rioting and black people being murdered, they look like responding by voting for Trump. If they do, it’s in the bag.”

Blacks have been suffering from crime and unemployment for decades. Can you point out to me a single Black politician who supports punishing criminals? The truth is that the Black community is happy for 10 Black women to be raped as long as 1 White woman is as well. They are happy for dozens Blacks to be robbed as long as Dennis suffers a home invasion.

The only people who care about issues are Whites.

  16. ” The black vote is apparently abandoning the Dems.”

This is nonsense. The Democrats reliably get somewhere between 95% and 98% of the black vote and between 60% and 70% of the hispanic vote; that isn’t changing anytime soon. As Steve Sailer has pointed out many times, the only thing uniting the Blacks, Mexicans, Jews and elite whites that comprise the Democrats vote is their hatred of white people.

  17. Voter fraud is still the biggest danger to Trump.

Could he sign a exec order ruling out the counting of mysteriously turned up demorat vote-stuffed election boxes. So if it isn’t counted initially then it is out of-order and doesn’t count. That would only leave postal fraud.,

Id Trump trying to preclude such fraud? Is there a way to do so?

Gamecock August 23, 2020 at 10:49 am – “blacks don’t hate white people.”

They do a very good impression of it. But I agree that they mostly do it because it pays rather than any real deep feeling. Blacks don’t have any memory of slavery except what the media tells them.

  19. Can you point out to me a single Black politician who supports punishing criminals?

Well, Kamala Harris did for about a decade and half. Of course, her experience with the legacy of slavery is the same as mine: she watched it on TV.
