A most impartial report

As expected, Trump raised unfounded accusations about Biden’s son, Hunter, related to his business dealings in Ukraine. Trump was impeached for pushing government officials in Kiev to investigate the Biden family. Despite no evidence of wrongdoing, Republican allies of the president have continued to fixate on the manufactured controversy.

Hunter was raking it in left right and centre because Daddy was VP.

Now, whether this is unusual or not is a fair question but there’s nothing manufactured about it.

More impartiality:

Trump ensures first presidential debate is national humiliation

What confuses is why they bother with this vituperation. Who among The Guardian’s readership is not going to vote for Biden anyway? Well, except the brave investigators like me here who read it so you don’t have to? Who is this rhetoric supposed to convince?

  1. Despite no evidence of wrongdoing, Republican allies of the president have continued to fixate on the manufactured controversy.

The bloody gall of them to say this after 4 years of them heavily pushing the feverishly lunatic Russian conspiracy theory

  2. Well, except the brave investigators like me here who read it so you don’t have to?
That’s very noble of you, thanks!

Who is this rhetoric supposed to convince?
It’s not there to convince – it’s there to reaffirm the readers’ righteous convictions and bolster their smugness. That’s the reason it doesn’t need to be true.

  3. So Much For Subtlety

What TMB said. The French generals of WW1 were said to maintain three sets of casualty figures – one to mislead the public, one to mislead the politicians in Paris and one to mislead themselves.

This is the Guardian misleading itself. If they do not keep up the brave front, they might start to think.

s expected, Trump raised unfounded accusations about Biden’s son, Hunter, related to his business dealings in Ukraine.

Nothing unfounded about it at all. The accusations are very well founded – Hunter was being paid $80,000 a month which caused the Obama administration some concern. Whether that was criminal or not is another matter. But the accusations are undeniable.

  4. Could be me, but…

Given the Guardian is a brit newsrag.. How many US-ians are actually likely to be swayed by its exhortations?

And wouldn’t their efforts at vilifying one side class as “foreign meddling in an election”?

    Fun questions..

What confuses is why they bother with this vituperation.

It is not meant to convince anyone, Timmy. It is a form of virtue signalling. The more hysterical the vilification, the greater the implied virtue of the author of said vilification.

  6. Articles like this provide an excuse for our taxpayer funded national broadcasters editorial staff claiming they have their reporting “just about right” as in one degree short of completely batsh1t crazy.

Chris Wallace made clear Trump, after four years, is still the outsider and Biden the establishment choice

Trump needs to pause and let points hit home like “Harry” and let Biden dig his hole – silence is golden
