Because you are a communist enemy Richard

Why is the nationalist right hallucinating a ‘communist enemy’?

Some headlines just are so easy to answer.

  1. Bloke in North Dorset

“From Trump to Bolsonaro, reactionary leaders are invoking a communism that no longer exists as a way of attacking the left”

But the left accusing everyone even slightly to their right as fascist and racist, which is also absurd, is OK.

What is being magnified thanks to Covid is the authoritarian tendencies of our politicians whether they claim to be on the left or right, and that is something worth writing about.

  2. “A communism that no longer exists”. It always fails, so they have to keep rebranding it.

The current franchisees are BLM and Antifa, the latter of which invokes a fascism that no longer exists as a way of attacking the right.

“Pot to Kettle you’re RGB #000000.”

  3. Simple gaslighting by a left-wing activist. The latest plan on many leftist Twitter accounts talking about the ‘Peaceful Protests’ in the US is to claim that: A) any violence is carried out by ‘right-wing Trump supporters, B) Antifa does not exist.

  4. Brings to mind conversations with some of the more extreme left. I tend to respond to harangues involving “the people wresting power from the capitalist running dogs by force” with my affection for straffing socialists from low flying aircraft or hunting with hounds. Starting with the haranguer. Amusing the response it gets. Especially as the haranguers are usually the sort of wimps couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

    Peter Hitchens has.

  6. The Other Bloke in Italy

If the violence, arson and so on is coming from Nazis disguised as peaceful communists, it must be ok to shoot them.

    Volley fire, Gentlemen.

  7. Peter Hitchens has.

His late brother would have been so much more entertaining, to-the-point and, above all, effective.

  8. Did you read it, M’Lud As so often, Hitchens combines good sense with the arrant stupidity for which he is noted.
This passage negates his entire argument.
“Once, before Charles Darwin, Ypres and the Somme, the Christian religion answered those needs. The Fear of the Lord was the Beginning of Wisdom, and the devoted service of Christ was perfect freedom. Faith offered eternal life and helped people to accept temporal death as normal. This belief helped to sustain earthly liberty because, as Edmund Burke pointed out, the man who truly fears God will fear nothing else. No despot can get very far if there are such men around in any number.”
There is not one jot of difference between what he’s complaining about the government doing & what organised religion has done throughout history. Manipulate peoples fear to control their behaviour. And organised religion has produced enough of its own despots. In fact you could say this is the whole purpose of organised religion.

  9. ‘The infamous Tea Party campaigns portraying Obama as a “socialist” – just like Lenin and Hitler, apparently – have become the licensed conspiracy theory of the White House.’

    Effective opposition is ‘infamous.’

‘Across the world, today’s reactionaries are hallucinating a communist threat.’

Yes, Jonathan, gaslighting. “The communist threat is not real! (But workers of the world can still unite.)”

  10. BiS: There is not one jot of difference between what [Peter Hitchens is] complaining about the government doing & what organised religion has done throughout history.

You can’t really mean that, can you?
