Authorities have poured cold water on an audacious plan to fence off a chunk of Bondi beach over summer for an exclusive “Euro beach chic” club aimed at surgeons, bankers and models.
The Amalfi Beach Club is proposing to erect a private area on southern end of the iconic beach, where 100 guests, each paying $80 for two hours of entry, would be served food and drinks.
But Waverley council, in response to media coverage of the plan, has clarified that it received and rejected the Amalfi Beach Club’s first proposal, which was lodged in May.
The plan doesn’t include charging the models $80 for entry.
Beaches are customarily public land in Oz. This would definitely not go down well with the voters for the Waverley Council.
Euro beach chic
I thought they planned to charge AUS$?
My experience is that businesses are pretty hard headed & they will charge the totty entry. In fact the strategy would be to farm the hopeful totty. Most of it will make a loss on the day. The error is in thinking there’s a shortage of desirable young crumpet when in fact there’s a vast oversupply.
Not sure about that BiS, a lot of bars offer ladies nights where the drinks are cheap – if you attract the birds, the young men will follow. I’d not be surprised if they actually hired a few lovelies to roam the premises.
Eighty bucks for an entry seems cheap
Clubs in LA, Vegas, Miami etc will pick groups of young hotties out of the queue and let them in on the understanding they go and chat with one of the groups of guys who have booked a table. The girls come in, get drinks bought for them, do a bit of flirting and then can either stay (if wanted) or go and enjoy the rest of the club.
In other words formalising and mildly facilitating what would have happened anyway. Can’t see the problem.
@ Esteban
Yeah. If you’re fishing for herberts buy lagers at 5 quid a pint. If they reckon on pulling in high earnings males the totty stampede would back up for miles. As I say, almost everyone gets this the wrong way round. You don’t need to attract women to money. More a case of controlling the scramble.
If I’m paying an $80 cover charge for two hours, drinks on top of that, I want a complimentary lap dance, not just totty wandering around. Says my bachelor self from 10 years ago.
Is this intended as a method of keeping undesirables away from one section of the beach? It used to be that Lebanese were reckoned bad news – has Sydney now got a more diverse bunch of trouble-makers?
The idea that public beaches are public land is fairly ingrained in the Sydney psyche and would go down like a fart in a spacesuit.
Having said that, there are huge tracts of unused beach within the Sydney metro area where this proposal wouldn’t impact on anyone’s use, even not far from Bondi – say Coogee or Maroubra. You don’t need to go to Cronulla or the northern beaches for this.
‘You don’t need to attract women to money.’ Isn’t that the truth!
“……..an exclusive “Euro beach chic” club aimed at surgeons, bankers and models……….”
Just what kind of a clientele is this? What kind of atmosphere are they trying to create?
Perhaps the girls are going there for plastic surgery, the surgeons are there to do it and the bankers are there to pay for it….?
It’s a similar idea I saw in York when I ventured down south, they had a fenced beer garden area for posh people, admission fee, nice furniture and fake green grass. Men were wearing fedoras and had spread collar shirts.
Bloke in Spain,

There’s a whole load of complexity in this, it seems to me.
Like, nightclubs often used to give free entry to girls to get them to come, because you get the girls in, the guys will follow.
But when you make it at $80 cover charge (which I guess is £30 in real money), it’s now a collection of higher value men for the women.
Off topic – Krankie announces ruin for the Scottish hospitality industry: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-news-donald-trump-rule-six-cases-deaths/
Good chance for Boris to show that he’s not a pathetic coward who will blindly follow Krankie’s authoritarianism rather than risk making Piers Moron angry.
He won’t take it.
You’re getting the hang of it, BoM4. As far as the blokes are concerned, the $80 entrance deters the total shitheads & gives the door an opportunity to triage the wheat from the chaff from the rest, which a free walk-in wouldn’t. Girl-side, much the same except the sieve will favour the best lookers. For both sides, the $80 is trivial. I’ve known places it’s twice that.
I just realised. It’s Aussie dollars! Correction. Four times that. Jeez, there’s some cheapskates comment here! If you’re looking, deliveries & rubbish collection’s round the back.
Sure, but you do need to keep the entitled fatties out (and there are a fuckton of them), which means nominally charging $80 at the door, ideally to keep them out as it drags down the rest of the clientele.
You’re always going to get some kind of filter, whether it is “I’m on the list” kind of thing (the trick being that there is no “List” or at least not in any firm sense), just an excuse to keep out the undesirables.
It’s been done since forever, Studio 54 in New York being a prime example from recent history.
“Studio 54 in New York being a prime example from recent history.”
Recent? Studio 54 closed in the mid-80’s.
@Mr Womby – My point being that this sort of selection / restriction of hot women into venues and ignoring fees is not new.
@JG
I know, I was just being a pendant for the sake of it.
“Recent? Studio 54 closed in the mid-80’s.”
Sadly, the mid-80s seem recent to me.
