Adding it up

I’ve noticed that too PSR, (well, I thought it was my imagination until you mentioned it) there are far fewer people now, in management positions, that will accept any kind of challenge – if you don’t agree with everything they say, they take offence. It’s impossible to work in such an environment, particularly when managers are invariably wrong.

I have only suffered one serious episode of bullying. I was not alone in being bullied. A colleague was as well. We both found it pretty tough.

In 35 years as an employer I never had a complaint requiring any form of hearing with regard to my conduct. That did not make me perfect. I am not, I know. But it must indicate something.

Must be Alex Cobham has bullied both Snippa and John Christensen then…..

  1. What an oaf! The lack of awareness is amazing… Yes of course Dicky boy, managers are invariably wrong. How well is his business doing, remind me

Well bullying is evil Full Stop. If you gain pleasure from abusing people, then you are the bad guy. And bullies should be punished.

Priti Patel hasn’t faced a hearing either. The complaints against her were investigated by Sir Alex Allen. “Her approach on occasions has amounted to behaviour that can be described as bullying in terms of the impact felt by individuals,” writes Sir Alex. “To that extent her behaviour has been in breach of the Ministerial Code,” he continues, before wrapping his conclusion in a mystery: “even if unintentionally.”

But surely bullying has to be intentional…

Theophrastus – Any crime definition can be subjective.
Even defining murder can be subjective. In terms of the different grey areas. What if someone is brain dead is that murder or attempted murder, or it is manslaughter, or attempted murder, or euthanasia, or abortion or following a military or police order. If it was easy to define every crime, you would not need courts and laws, and juries.
Do not try to win the argument over whether or not a term can be defined 100% any time. No word can be defined 100%. As there are always different subjective truths.

Bullying is in the eye of the victim, as the absurd report on Priti Patel shows. The UK government defines workplace bullying as “behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated or offended”. That definition is wholly based on the subjective opinion of the ‘victim’. Do you have an objective definition? If so, please share it.

That there are grey areas does not mean that black and white don’t exist. Rational judgement, as in the law, is not subjective: it is based on certain shared objective criteria. Bullying is not. Murder (i.e. intentional illegal killing) is not down to the subjective opinion of the victim, neither is theft etc. However, bullying is.

  6. How about we do some investigation on insubordination by the “civil” servants she was directing?
Insubordination is gross misconduct… instant dismissal with no compensation or recourse.
See how those pricks like that.
