Don’t be stupid woman

ALICE THOMSON
Sexuality should never be a source of shame

Of course it can and should be. What changes is which expressions of it are considered shameful.

Harvey W – not his full name in order to protect – didn’t consider tossing off into a pot plant shameful when he probably should have as the compensation bill is showing.

Being gay? Sure, no shame in that these days. The Rev Dodgson’s interest in little girls would have him locked up these days, just for having the piccies, and Epstein’s ephebophilia would have been largely legal in the UK and entirely so in Portugal.

That is, fashions change in shame even if the underlying sexuality is always with us.

  1. She’s crying about the AIDS pandemic, but the AIDS pandemic wasn’t caused by a surfeit of shame, it was caused by its absence.

Pretty hard to get AIDS if you don’t regularly have popper-fueled disco orgies with all-male naked conga lines, no? Like, I’m not even trying to be judgemental, but I’m pretty sure Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s once-controversial Relax video isn’t a good way to live your life. Great tune tho.

Imagine if the Guardian Karened as hard about HIV as they do Covid tho – probably get a visit from Plod.

  2. I didn’t understand the fuss about Prince Andrew in the Epstein saga. The lass was over the age of consent so what’s the problem? Sure if he has a pic of her with her tits out, he’d be in deep doo, but as for fucking her, perfectly legal.

  3. Does she think Louis C.K. should feel shame for “expressing his sexuality” after asking for consent? Because many people like her think so.

  4. I think her point might be that shame is not a valid response to anything. Because sin is not “real”

So although she would probably tell us that rapists should be castrated, she is making a point about human conscience, not sexuality.

In a post-truth world, the amoral can still be deplorable?

Of course we’d need to ask her why raping is “wrong” at that point, but I suspect she would call that hate speech?

Of which we could be proud.

    Because, coughs …

She wasn’t legal where she came from (NY?)
    The Yanks are prudes.
They also have this weird “transportation across state lines” thing. Like other states can’t be trusted …
He’s an obnoxious git. (Yes, I have had the misfortune.)

I have a few friends who were in the military back in the day. Andy was C in C (or whatever) of the regiment. All those who had dealings with him found him to be a weapons grade cock end. Even now when his name is mentioned they feel the need to remind everyone what a tool he is.

There’s nothing weird about it, or about “other states can’t be trusted …”. The Federal government can’t criminalize sex trafficking unless it includes interstate commerce. Or at least that was then. Today anything can be a Federal crime.

  8. My late uncle served aboard HMY Britannia in the 70s when said prince was a young lad. The crew, to a man, thought he was a bell-end back then. My uncle told me that before every cruise Her Maj would address the crew and advise them that they were within their rights to make sure her children did not misbehave. It is 2 years since he passed away. Getting together with him and his yottie mates was always a pleasure and a laugh. I do miss him.
