So Bernie’s not bothering with proof reading then

We cannot continue to allow profitable corporations like Amazon to make billions of dollars in taxes and pay nothing in net federal income taxes.

Remember, this is now one of the guys that writes the laws……

  1. @Julia,

Sadly I fear it will last a lot longer than 4 years.

And every setback is going to be blamed on Trump and or Covid

  2. Given that Jeff Bezos and his fellow oligarchs spent four long years doing everything within their power to bring about this regime, it would be churlish not to say ha ha!

    Get them, Bernie.

  3. Yup – Denis Healey of Geoffrey Howe, wasn’t it? Both of them of a calibre rather more impressive than the US gerontocracy.

  4. I have yet to see anyone provide proof of how Amazon does not pay what is due in taxes

Change the law by all means but you cannot expect a corporation to pay anything more than it is required to do so

Not sure the tech share owning public is necessarily keen on a tax grab

  5. Dennis: Oppressor, Warmonger, Capitalist and Consumer of Petroleum Products

Bernie Sanders, socialist, owns three houses. He’s been a politician all his life and his wife had a career in social work. Wonder where he got the money to buy three houses… Perhaps, just perhaps, from donations and contributions from businessmen like, say, Jeff Bezos, who are looking for a bit of preferential tax treatment?

Side note: It appears that Jeff Bezos still hasn’t grasped the fact that no matter how much money he gives to Democrat politicians, he’s always going to be THE ENEMY.

  6. “The future’s not ours to see..”

Jeff Bezos doesn’t know what’s going to happen in the future any more than the rest of us.
What he does know though, is that politicians can be bought (often cheaply).

He can shape that future in ways that ordinary voters can’t.

  7. I am prepared to be that the next four years will not see a huge redistribution of wealth from Amazon and the like to America’s beleaguered middle classes, whatever Bernie says he wants.

OTOH I do expected Democrat cronies to be enriched with monies borrowed from future Middle America taxpayers, with a few quid thrown at minorities, most of which will go to enrich Democrat cronies.

I’ve already noticed US private equity companies (owned and managed by lily white types from both US coasts) talking enthusiastically about ‘racial equity’ investing, because they’ve caught a whiff of lovely subsidies which will enrich them and their equally pale investors.

And Bernie will still have 3 houses.

  8. Bernie proved balls-less against both Hellary and The Noodle With No Noddle. He’s a man of no consequence.

  9. MC – Deffo, but the future of the Democratic Party is brown women screeching about racism and gibs, forever. I dunno how much longer the gerontocracy can keep their wrinkled, liverspotted fingers on the levers of power and/or stay alive, and the AOC’s, Omars etc. who will replace them are a lot closer to Bernienomics than they are Kamala-chameleon’s palette-swapped Hillary Clinton routine.

  10. When you win a revolution, the first order of business is ensuring there isn’t a counter-revolution. To this end you divide your allies into two groups, those that helped you gain power but are of no further use, and those who can help you keep power. Then you get rid of the first group so that they can’t help anyone else.

  11. “…this is now one of the guys that writes the laws……”

    No it’s not. Nothing like.

This is one of the guys WHO FRONTS FOR the guys who REALLY write the laws. The guys who really write the laws are the lobbyists and background establishment influencers, in conjunction with the civil servants who are subverted and on their side.

For example – the people who wrote the US Copyright Term Extension Act (CTEA) of 1998 were nothing to do with President Clinton, nor even Congressman Bono. They were Time Warner, Universal Studios and Walt Disney….

  12. On the absence of erudite politicians these days, I think my favourite response is still that of Roy Jenkins who answered a three part question in the commons with

“the answers to your questions are ‘yes’, ‘yes’ and ‘no’. But not necessarily in that order”.

  13. the future of the Democratic Party is brown women screeching about racism and gibs, forever

That might be the face of the Dems, but the people controlling the wealth and power of the US and pulling the strings of lackwits like AOC remain resolutely pallid, as is the new tech aristocracy. Jeff Bezos might have a Cuban name from his stepdad but his upbringing was resolutely middle class and don’t see him getting down with the Latinx.

We talk about the US getting more diverse/brown but that doesn’t matter to the oligarch class. Black, white or brown, we’re all niggers to them.

  14. Wasn’t it the insurance companies who wrote Obamacare – making healthcare more expensive but giving “everyone” easier access?

  15. He’s [Bernie Sanders] been a politician all his life and his wife had a career in social work.

I thought she was an educator – wasn’t she the one who managed to bankrupt her college?

  16. Isn’t all just a publicity thing, they huff and puff and tweak at the edges all the time giving the tech companies a sly wink and patting each other on the back that everyone really does think they are enemies not allies.
One aspect of Trump is that he may have pushed them to the point the mask slipped enough that they can never put it back on

I thought the Cosy Club rules were that when there’s a change of government those who were lobbyists are now part of the government and those that were part of the government are now lobbyists?

So I suppose technically they are lobbyists but they write those laws and regulations from the inside. Same effect though.

  18. You missed the important bit, earlier in the piece.

    We gotta reconsider.

Bernie is the first of the people on the Left to call out Biden for what he really is:

“And, in the midst of all this, the foundations of American democracy are under an unprecedented attack. We have a president who is working feverishly to undermine American democracy and incite violence against the very government and constitution he swore to defend. ”

    Eh, guid lad, Bernie.
