So, when do they come for the Marxists?

Twitter has said it has suspended more than 70,000 accounts since Friday that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content as the social media site continued to crack down on content after supporters of Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol.

“Given the violent events in Washington DC, and increased risk of harm, we began permanently suspending thousands of accounts that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content on Friday afternoon,” Twitter said in a blog late on Monday.

“These accounts were engaged in sharing harmful QAnon-associated content at scale and were primarily dedicated to the propagation of this conspiracy theory across the service,” the company said.

After all, it’s a pretty widespread conspiracy theory, at least some adherents insist that it requires a revolutionary solution, the bourgeoisie to be eliminated as a class. So?

  1. Or the Islamic radicals? And when can we regulate them as publishers, and make the companies liable for what is published on their sites? And when do Antifa get closed down?

George Galloway is threatening to being a lawsuit against Twitter:

“ Dear Twitter: I am defamed many times every day on your platform almost always by anonymous accounts. Now that you have styled yourselves as publishers exercising editorial judgements (in some important cases) I intend to hold you legally responsible for such defamations.”

Much as I dislike his politics if he goes crowd funding I’d be happy to chuck something in.

  3. Do they mean conspiracy theories like White privilege, White Fragility or the Patriarchy. They’re removing those too, yes?

They should take a look at black Twitter while they’re at it; regular threats to kill White people on there.

  4. One good thing which may come from this is governments around the world are realising that while Twitter fucking their citizens was ‘meh, who cares’, Twitter fucking the Head of State is quite another. Time will tell the scale of this fuck-up on Twitter’s part. I think there’ll be a lot of legislation around the world in the next year aimed at them.

Twitter is a sideshow to this. The story is AWS (Amazon Web Services) withdrawing access to Parler and others.

Social media has its place, but people, corporations and governments will be a bit more circumspect about allowing a US corporation to have the ability to switch off access to their data and digital services on a whim.

Hence the comments of the likes of Merkel – no fan of Trump – but interested in national sovereignty over being ruled by the manboys of California tech.

  6. Don’t be silly.

They cannot come for the Marxists.

The very label is derogatory and racist; those accused by such a label are simply quiet voices seeking to be heard amongst the ruck and violence of white supremacy, the patriarchy, systemic racism and hatred of trans people.

There are no Marxists; just those who see how things should be, and who work ceaselessly and tirelessly and peacefully for the change. And these people are there to uplift the poor, the attacked, the oppressed, thos who have no hope, by working for the destruction of the evil capitalist empire which enriches just the white supremacists and their ilk; such riches having clearly to be taken along with the collapse of their evil polity.

But Marxists – you evil mal-labeling patriarchal smug swine, you!

There, hope that explains it for you. And why it will never happen.

I’m not convinced Galloway has any particular politics, other than the glorification of George Galloway (though that hardly makes him unique among the political class). But I’d also happily throw in a few ££ for him to bring an action against Twitter, if only in the hope they might both lose.

  8. This will backfire ‘bigly’

The Trump/QANon grand conspiracy continues to grow, fanned by leftie social media’s attempts to silence them

  9. Twitter abs Facebook bans, Remove Trump or we will impeach, etc

I think we can add de-escalation to the list of words USAians don’t understand.

If Biden really wanted to be presidential and heal some of the current turmoil he’d be calling for people to drop it and just let the next week slide by
