What an interesting concept

Which means that in that case Labour is flying a Union flag in the cause of English nationalism.

And that won’t just alienate Scotland and Wales even more; it is also true that nothing is more certain to alienate many in England. We do not still wish to be seen as a colonial power, which is exactly what Labour by doing this is answering that England still is.

And those it will alienate are on the left, not the right. And they might vote for others, just as those who once voted for Labour in Scotland now do.

And why might they do that? Because they really do not like this appeasement by the party of new-fascism.

If Labour wants a policy talk jobs, the NHS, housing and the Green New Deal.

Promise decent benefits.

Justify what it is going to do.

Explain how to pay for it, as I can do.

And then talk delivery, endlessly.

Hammer home that the NHS was not ready for the current crisis because of a failure of government preparedness that the Tories can never supply , but which is what Labour would be about.

But the Union Jack? Are we really all to succumb to the outright nastiness of the small-minded nationalist outlook now? Really?

Given that Scotland is, absolutely, allowed to fly the saltire in P³ world, so too are the ~Welsh to fly whatever they call that dragon thing then we English, well, what can we do?

The Union flag is that of an English imperialism. So, guess it’ll have to be the cross of St George then. I assume that’ll make Ritchie happy…..

  1. The Union flag is (surprise!) that of a Union (originally under a Scots King), which is why it was created as an amalgam of the English and Scottish flags, with Ireland added later. Sorry for the Welsh, perhaps we could add a little Ddraig Goch in the middle?

  2. According to the guardian Starmer risks alienating it’s core voters- the young and ethnic minorities. There you have it- the party for the naive/inexperienced/students and immigrants. No mention of the working class . “Labour” my arse

  3. If any party’s core vote is minorities (whether it be by occupation or ethnicity), how on earth are they going to get a majority in an election? They’re following the same confusion as the Russian Socialists where those in the majority were called the Minoritorians, and those in the minority self-proclaimed themselves the Majoritorians and seized government.

  4. Personally I think as long as Starmer pursues an unreliable volatile minority vote at the expense of a majority white working class vote I am all for it

  5. Is the Labour party aspiring to be elected as the government of the UK then, or just England? What a demented mentality you must have to be offended by a UK political party flying the UK national flag. The complaint about English nationalism might have made a tiny bit of sense had they flown the English flag. The stuff about the NHS, presumably it gives superb service and operates with total efficiency when Labour are in power and only turns to shit when the evil Tories get in.

Do you really think these diverse minorities share a common purpose?
I think the greater risk is that they bring their ancient hatreds of each other.

I am sure that the Hindu-Muslim split is one reason it is relatively easy for people like Priti Patel to join the Tories.

But generally hatred of White people is very unifying. After all, we have all the money and good jobs.

The Hindu culture is far to the right of the Tories – much more Whig. The concept that your next life will benefit (or not) depending on what effort you put into this one encourages people to “better themselves”. You don’t need any Muslims joining the Labour Party for a group of self-reliant entrepreneurs to (mostly) support the Conservative Party as the least of the evils.

You been listening to the BBC again?

  10. @stonyground – pictures from recent labour conferences shows a desire to become the govt of “palestine” The rest of the time they want to be the govt of Pakistan.
