  1. For starters, without slavery there wouldn’t have been any black wealth in the US, because there wouldn’t have been any blacks in the US.

  2. Open a private tab on your browser and paste the URL into it. You can view it as part of your “free” content. If you click on a link to see something else you will be paywalled. So copy the URL, close the private browser window, open another and paste the link in.

  3. Now do one on Asian/White wealth gaps….

The nuclear family and education doesn’t get a mention. The relative numbers of whites/blacks doesn’t get a mention. Exactly as you would expect of motivated reasoning.

  4. For starters, without slavery there wouldn’t have been any black wealth in the US, because there wouldn’t have been any blacks in the US.

And as slaves were an important export for Africa, they enhanced the wealth of black Africans.

  5. ‘And as slaves were an important export for Africa, they enhanced the wealth of black Africans.’

Yes MC. A point which is commonly ignored. After all, that’d mean that everything isn’t always the fault of the whites.

  6. West Africans (Maro Itoje, for example) can absolve themselves of guilt for the slave trade because of colonialism. So goes the theory. In fact the “scramble for Africa” only began once the salve trade stopped. A gap of about a century, in fact.
Unconnected events do not excuse African complicity in the trade.

  7. . . . without slavery there wouldn’t have been any black wealth in the US, because there wouldn’t have been any blacks in the US.

There were some blacks in early America who weren’t slaves, or even indentured servants.

  8. PJF – Yarp, some black fellas in the US owned slaves.

Obviously wypipo are evil and that’s why black and brown people have no choice but to follow them wherever they go, and then complain endlessly, but I dunno why Edward Colston gets a kicking when there’s a much more obvious baddie.

The agricultural revolution and its consequences were a disaster for the human race. Our primitive hunter gatherer ancestors had no use for slaves, their wealth was measured in mammoth tusks and fetish totems of fat birds. It was farming that created the demand for mass indentured labour.

So logically, we need reparations for Neanderthals, and all Homo Sapiens colonisers should fuck off back to Africa. This would also be greatly beneficial in reducing our carbon footprint.

  9. Yes Steve. Our noble ancestors were staunch recyclers. They not only ate the Neanderthals. They also ate anyone else they could catch.

  10. Genetic evidence suggests we fucked Neanderthals as well as eating them. Homo sapiens were homo sapiens in them days. Now look at the state of us….

On the slavery point, as slave trading brought foreign goods/currency in to Africa and took Africans out of it, the boost to GDP per capita must have been substantial.

I suspect it wouldn’t take long to find an ancestor of Maro Itoje’s who owned slaves. Far more likely than any of our predecessors being in that business.

  11. Our primitive hunter gatherer ancestors had no use for slaves . . .

Any hunter gatherer ancestor tribes with sufficient resources would have had a use for slaves. Not all hunting and gathering is subsistence level.

  12. how-much-did-slavery-in-u-s-cost-black-wealth? NONE of you have the right answer. You are obviously not woke enough.

The correct answer is ‘the maximum amount that the US Establishment can be persuaded to pay in reparations’….

  13. The legal case that established the case for slaves vs indentured servants in the US was brought by a black landowner if memory serves who didn’t want to let his indentured servants free

  14. Bloke in North Dorset

Nope, that won’t be enough because once you’ve paid the Dane ….
