It is a disquietingly existential exhibition, big on abstract ideas but with little by way of actual buildings to show. The organizers contend: “We take up the question of what architecture can be – not a tool for imperialism and subjugation, not a means for aggrandizing the self, but a vehicle for liberation and joy.”

We all thought it was a manner of making buildings that don’t suck. But then architects did leave that behind long ago….

  1. Having lived or worked in a number of architect designed (some even award winning) buildings over the years, I’d make it mandatory for any architect to live or work in their creations for at least a year so they can learn how truly crap their ideas are.

  2. to be Black is to always be negotiating around the bias of others. Racism is omnipresent. White supremacy is the west’s original sin.

Delusional nonsense. As the mention of original sin demonstrates, this is a religion, one with dodgy and ill-conceived theology.

Of course, when the writer thinks about things rationally, he realises that casting Johnson as an irredeemable sinner is stupid.

Perhaps one day he’ll realise that his opening paragraphs are as stupid as saying Abraham Lincoln was a racist.

It would be fun to ask estate agents to find one a property that was not a tool for imperialism and subjugation, not a means for aggrandizing the self, but a vehicle for liberation and joy, though having said that, it bit of self-aggrandizing would be fine too.

All done by Walter Gropius >100 years ago.

At least he had the excuse of a mind addled by non stop nookie with Alma Mahler

By any modern measure he was terribly racist, dig a little deeper and freeing the slaves soon collapses into the sort of convenient simplification that is usually used to teach basic history.
San Francisco has removed his name from schools due to his policies on First Nations, so he was racist to some groups it seems

  6. Ok.. every word in there is in the dictionary..

The total lack of substance and actual content would make a politician weep with envy.

  7. What these lacking self-awareness twits don’t realize is that everyone is constantly negotiating their way around life’s little biases. It’s like asking a twin what it “feels like” to be a twin. Compared to what?
