Fair point really

Healey argues for a focus on what he calls the “real middle” – people who earn around the median British wage of just under £25,000 – saying these should be Labour’s “core constituency”.

Seems a reasonable enough place to aim for political support.

Instead of the current cobbled together coalition of every whining grifter in the country. Although there is the awful thought that the current electoral calculation could prove right at some point, when whining grifters are the majority.

  1. “Some within Labour have argued that regaining the voters lost since 2010 while not alienating existing supporters has become increasingly difficult in a more atomised political culture, and that the party should ally with other parties, and comprehensively embrace proportional representation.”

And this is how Labour’s internal politics will continue play out – whether or not to appeal to and to accommodate a significant proportion of the electorate that their Corbynite wing viscerally loathe, or to accept minority party status and team up with the SNP, Greens and LibDems in a coalition of nutters.

  2. The whining grifters hate each other so much that the whole charade would collapse under its own contradictions long before it became a problem in that way. Muslims vs gays? Feminists vs transloons? Syrians vs Turks?

  3. ” Although there is the awful thought that the current electoral calculation could prove right at some point, when whining grifters are the majority.”

Careful Tim, don’t say the quiet part out loud, you might get even more cancelled than you already have been.

  4. I imagine that ‘middle’ doesn’t give a shit about Palestine, the Joos, “trans rights”, kneeling to thugs and all the other ‘ishoos’ the modern Labour Party obsesses on. If they did, they would still vote Labour.

  5. 25 grand is the median income, which by definition is the 50% point. So if you target everybody on an income up to 25 grand, then you’ve got 50% of the population, bingo, majority government. Unfortunately, half those people are people on benefits that the current Labour apparatchics loath, and half the current Labour core vote are on incomes well well above that target demographic.

  6. Be novel if even one politician cared very much for fifty percent of the vote.

They happily get in on much less…..
