Sorry, but social media is more damaging than TV – whatever the research may say
Lax regulation of social platforms has allowed many to become a digital Wild West of racism, sexual harassment, and pornography
So, human beings aren’t quite as polite as some thought. And?
This isn’t the platforms at fault, it’s the folks.
It’s been obvious right since Usernet days. The interweb is populated by real people. And real people are not all cuddly & nice. Never have been. Parents wouldn’t have let their kids loose in the sleazyer parts of out cities or let them play on the motorway. Why they gave them free reign on the web I haven’t a clue. As for Twatter, it’s the internet version of the back of the toilet door. What do you expect?
Why are we bothering to do research that we then ignore in favour of our own prejudices?
And by ‘we’ I mean idiots with a MSM pulpit…

I used to have parental controls on for the kids. They were easy to set up and worked just fine (in fact, a little too well and I had to override some sites).
Another problem with the internet is that no-one wants to pay for anything. Everyone complains that all of social media is a sewer, but they all use ad-supported social media. And that means there’s little money for human moderation and no bar to entry. So, you get the equivalent of Mogadishu on a bad day.
That was supposed to be rein. Although, come to think of it, they do reign on a large part of it. Or there’s an awful lot of adults doing excellent impersonations of mentally retarded early teens.
Social media is not compulsory
Don’t use it
Problem solved, and better still you can be smug

The Free Stuff Army. When will people understand you get exactly what you pay for?
OK, Bryony Gordon has outed herself as a totalitarian. Now what?
Bryony Gordon. An absolute guarantee of crap. In a fairly strong field she is head and shoulders the most vacuous, Polly Filler journo on the Telegraph. She must have some pretty incendiary photo’s cos she has minus talent.
I notice she specifically pointed out *social media* sites as a cesspool for pornography. That’s because the actual porn sites are considered “sex positivity” and “sex work” by the left.
