Of course, the idiots would think this a win

A Brussels plot to lock the City out of European markets has backfired and harmed the finances of banks on the Continent, the boss of the UK’s finance watchdog has said.

Viewed from Brussels this would be the City has lost business in financing European banks. This is a win – but then they are idiots.

  1. They’re weird these Europeans. They can understand that cutting Jersey’s electricity imports would innconvienience Jersey while at the same time costing them money but they don’t seem to understand that cutting their own imports from UK might cause themselves some problems.

  2. Cunning, unscrupulous but in the end rather ignorant and stupid: a fair picture of the EU nomenklatura?

  3. I don’t think (all) the eurocrats are ignorant and stupid. They’re acting according to their own incentives, they want to increase their own powers (those of the EU), so must resist any breakaway state and try to make Brexit fail (and be seen to fail), but they have no incentive at all to take account of any negative effects their actions have on the EU economy. What, after all, can EU citizens do about it?

  4. Have the writers at the Telly failed English? It should read
