That inflation is coming soon, right?

Brexit also hangs heavy. We face labour shortages,

Of course, he’d only claim he meant another form of full employment is necessary before inflation arrives.

And deep down many people know unemployment is going up soon.

It’s to snigger, right?

  1. Don’t labour shortages and rising unemployment sort of cancel each other out? Of course not everyone can do every job so there might be some retraining needed but still…

  2. Contradicting himself in the same article now. Normally he waits a day or so before contradicting himself. It takes a perverse personality to want to parade the disintegration of one’s mind before the world like this

  3. “Contradicting himself in the same article now.”

He’s probably thinking of Walt Whitman’s “Do I contradict myself? … I contain multitudes” quote. Sadly the best he manages on a good day is to contain platitudes.

Not really. Its entirely possible that we could get significant labour shortages and rising unemployment at the same. The shortages are going to be in the sort of jobs men do, and the lost jobs are going to be the ones women do. Not only are the skills not interchangeable, the desire on the part of the individuals to change careers won’t be there either. Think digger operators, bricklayers and HGV drivers vs hotel, shop and hospitality staff.

  5. I thought that women were all for doing jobs that were traditionally done by men these days. Although I can’t ever recall hearing calls for more female industrial plant fitters. The job does entail crawling under diggers in winter on muddy building sites and getting oil up your sleeve, I wonder if that has any bearing on the matter.
