But voluntary lockdown seems to be another factor to me. People are still, quite reasonably, isolating. They have more sense than this government, which is a cause for hope.

It’s the inability to see the link there. If folks are doing it anyway then we don’t need government to tell them, do we?

But if the government doesn’t order people about fewer professors will be able to ejaculate every time the government orders people about.

I must have been walking around in a daze not seeing the change in your moniker – I like it.

He seems to have a big problem with the notion of anything being voluntary. It’s a characteristic of many people I know of a similar political ilk!

  3. If Professor Spud thinks that people have more sense than the government, then can we look forward to him advocating less government in general…?

(I know, but we can dream…)

I speculate that one of the reasons the models are always so far out is that they don’t allow for human agency, or allow enough. I appreciate that its also in the interests of the modellers to overestimate, but still they can’t be adding that much “just in case”?

  5. It’s the uncooperative last inch that drives the progressives to demanding severe government control. People are doing it anyway, but someone, somewhere isn’t, so now we need more regulation.

That’s true, but where’s the fun in not being able to tell people what they must do?

If Richard Murphy could ejaculate he probably wouldn’t be Richard Murphy.

If he had any intellectual curiosity, an understanding of basic statistics and the ability to carry out simple erase arch accurately he’d know that the rate of growth of case numbers had approached zero and by some measures was negative before the first lockdown. It was similar before the second lockdown although the government acted faster that time.

If he doesn’t want to believe the curajous state’s numbers he just needs to look at other numbers like TFL passengers, Google mobility, retail spending and anything that reflects how people are living.

  9. Walking around San Sebastián, there are almost equal numbers of people walking around in masks versus unmasked. Inside the bars, not terribly well ventilated, 90% are not wearing masks. People are just wearing masks for compliance with rules. There is no rational risk assessment happening
