Democracy, eh?

The US Department of Justice on Friday ordered the Internal Revenue Service to hand Donald Trump’s tax returns to a House committee, saying the panel had “invoked sufficient reasons” for requesting them.

The news was a second blow for Trump in a matter of hours, after released DoJ memos revealed that as part of his campaign to overturn his election defeat by Joe Biden, he pressured top officials to falsely label the 2020 election as corrupt, then “leave the rest to me”.

House speaker Nancy Pelosi applauded the DoJ’s order to the IRS to release Trump’s tax returns to the ways and means committee.

“Today, the Biden administration has delivered a victory for the rule of law, as it respects the public interest by complying with Chairman [Richard] Neal’s request for Donald Trump’s tax returns,” Pelosi said in a statement.

“Access to former President Trump’s tax returns is a matter of national security. The American people deserve to know the facts of his troubling conflicts of interest and undermining of our security and democracy as president.”

A Democrat says that the Democrats are right to insist that the tax returns of a Republican must be given to the Democrats.

Rightieho Nancy.

  1. As with the ‘Liberal Party’ in the UK being filled with illiberals, the ‘Democrat party’ in the US is filled with fascists.

I can already hear the howls of outrage from the future as the next Rep Congress demands the tax return or other private documents of a senior Democrat, eg Hilary Clinton.

  3. The Liberal Party is fairly liberal. It’s the Liberal Democrats that’s filling up with illiberal anti-democrats.

Surely this sets a precident that all outgoing president’s tax returns have to be handed over to the government?

  4. Outgoing is too late if it is to be a thing. Let’s imagine we knew where Biden’s money came from. Although it just may not be in his tax returns. What about Pelosi herself, and her husband’s lucky stock trading record?

  5. The Democrat’s sole platform is “Orange Man Bad”.
Hence they need Trump in the news.
They know full well that there is nothing amiss with Trump’s tax returns, The IRS have been crawling all over them, The FBI and CIA have been going through all his affairs with a fine toothed comb- if they’d found anything it would have been shouted from every front page.

Doesn’t everyone’s tax return get handed over to the government?

  7. “They know full well that there is nothing amiss with Trump’s tax returns”

The Democrats keep insisting there is nothing amiss with the 2020 election results, yet they are fighting tooth & nail to stop or impede audits being carried out. Funny how things are completely different when THEY are at risk…

  8. They know full well that there is nothing amiss with Trump’s tax returns . . .

It may be Trump that knows there’s nothing wrong with his tax returns, but by baiting the Democrats to go after them he achieves three things. They find a nothing-burger; they look like the evil cunts they are; they establish a precedent that will bite them hard.

  9. Trump’s tax returns are *a matter of national security*
Do they contain the secret recipe for Coca-Cola? Or the password to the nuclear weapon storage facility? Or the location of Fox Mulder?

  10. Where are all the organisations complaining about political corruption and abuse of state powers to attack your political enemies….turning into a banana republic before our eyes

Expect to see Joe Biden’s tax returns – and probably Kamala Harris’ as well – released by the DOJ, at the insistence of Congress, early in 2025. Republicans will control all three branches of government by then, and I can guarantee you that payback will be Hell.

What makes Trump tax return saga even more absurd is it is occurring against the backdrop of Hunter Biden selling his “artwork” for hundreds of thousands a pop.

Nail on head, PJF. What these assholes never seem to realize is that people like Donald Trump don’t sit down with a copy of Turbotax and prepare their tax return. They have an army of top-notch CPAs and tax attorneys do it for them. They is absolutely nothing in Trump’s returns… guaranteed.

I think they achieve four things. The fourth being that this will still be in play during the mid-term elections next year.

  14. TJF nails it. I bet Trump is doing his usual 4D chess thing and making a big thing of not releasing his tax returns even though they would prove nothing is amiss. Because by hiding it, it makes the enemy concentrate on it to the exclusion of just about everything else. There is no real advantage in releasing the tax returns because he knows that if he did, they would just go after another thing. Better to keep them hooked on the tax returns. When they do finally get the tax returns, they’ll have been proved wrong.

  15. Why couldn’t Trump “play by the rules” and make his money through taxpayer funded schemes like Pelosi and her colleagues did?

Why wait? Just look at https://joebiden.com/financial-disclosure/

Have you missed the part where Trump was controversial due to the fact that it has become routine for presidents to publish their tax returns.

@Bloke in North Korea (Germany province): “Doesn’t everyone’s tax return get handed over to the government?”

Technically, no. The government is not the state. In the UK, for example, the people who see your tax returns are the civil servants whose job requires it. MPs, the Prime Minister, or the reigning monarch do not.
