This is entirely, wholly, different

Donald Trump’s penchant for turning his political and legal troubles into fundraising schemes has long been recognized, but the former US president’s money hustling tricks seem to have expanded since his defeat by Joe Biden, prompting new scrutiny and criticism from campaign finance watchdogs and legal analysts.

Critics note Trump has built an arsenal of political committees and nonprofit groups, staffed with dozens of ex-administration officials and loyalists, which seem aimed at sustaining his political hopes for a comeback, and exacting revenge on Republican congressional critics. These groups have been aggressive in raising money through at times misleading appeals to the party base which polls show share Trump’s false views he lost the White House due to fraud.

Of course it’s different. Whadda you think these people are, Clintons or something?

  1. Both Pacs are seen as vehicles for Trump to raise more funds to influence 2022 congressional races,

How dare he! Only George Soros is allowed to do that.

  2. ‘… to the party base which polls show share Trump’s false views he lost the White House due to fraud.’

How dare they! How dare they think something other than what the clever people tell them?

    However. Perception is reality.

  3. From generally talking to people, polls and a bit of online news I don’t think there is a single person in the US who honestly believes Biden won. Half of people are even prepared to answer that to a face-to-face opinion poll knowing they might be identified with that view.

It’s the most bizarre situation I’ve ever seen.

  4. which polls show share Trump’s false views he lost the White House due to fraud.

Fact check, bigots: it’s completely normal for Democrat-run cities in four strategically important states to suddenly stop counting at the same time, kick out election observers, pull out suitcases full of ballots, and restart the count a few hours later to prove that a senile pedophile who draws more flies than voters to his public appearances is The Most Popular And Definitely Legitimate President In The History Of The Universe.

What folks honestly believe can be very strange turf indeed. There will be a section of the Democrat left who would believe Biden won even if he’d failed to gain a single vote. They’re unable to contemplate any other possibility. It’s going to be the same on the Trump side. What’s so notable is the number of people think Trump was cheated. Whether he was or not, in reality,is less important than what that says about the loss of confidence in the democratic system. The democratic system works when the losers consent to be governed by the winners. That went in ’16. The US is not now a functional democracy.

  6. BiS – eh, turns out it hasn’t been a democratic system for some time. Trump (with literal petabytes of media dedicated to attacking him, he’s easily the most demonised man in all of human history so far – including Genghis Khan, Hitler, Gary Glitter and Dracula) just unwittingly made explicit what was already implicit.

When the people elect somebody and the entire machinery of government/judiciary/media/corporate interests (same thing) spends the next few years furiously gaslighting the public with crazy conspiracy theories about KGB Nazi-commies, inventing reasons why nothing must be allowed to change, harassing the guy who got elected and trying to destroy or jail everyone who tries to work with him, then encouraging widespread rioting, looting, arson and murder, then mysteriously dropping all charges when the feds make a token effort to arrest a few perps (don’t worry, random Boomers are still being dragged out of their homes and fitted up for peacefully attending a Trump speech on January 6th), it’s pretty hard to maintain the pretence that things like “democracy” and “the rule of law” still exist.

They do not, the USA is a shitty banana republic floating on an ocean of funny money debt and there’s actually only one political party – the Looting Party. There’s only one law, and it’s Do What Thou Wilt (As Long As You’re Politically Connected Enough To Get Away With It).

We were lucky to eventually get Brexit, because a similar dynamic (smaller budget, and less CGI) exists here. Very large swathes of the political class, their donors, the media, the judiciary, academia, the permanent bureaucracy, etc. would literally rather be violently killed by blood-crazed weasels than allow the likes of you, filthy racist gammon, to have any say whatsoever in how you are governed.

  7. Maybe Barron should sell crack-fuelled artworks and give ten percent to the big guy.
    That’s straight up legit, right?

  8. PJF

Hunter is cashing in as fast as possible. Once his senile father is removed from office the artworks will be worth less than the canvasses they are painted on (I use the term “worth” in the financial sense as opposed to the artistic one – which was always a no-brainer).

How dare people hold unapproved opinions.

Where’s Richard Murphy when you need him?

  10. Where’s Richard Murphy when you need him?

Funny you should say that as “Professor” Murphy popped up in my youtube feed today on Russia Today. Is he in the pay of the Russkies?

  11. Very large swathes of the political class, their donors, the media, the judiciary, academia, the permanent bureaucracy, etc. would literally rather be violently killed by blood-crazed weasels than allow . . .

    Happy to oblige.

  12. Biden didn’t win the presidency, Fauci did.
Shame he isn’t president, in a way. He could have been impeached by now.
