When investigating who might have lied it is – allegedly – one of the Clinton lawyers. Who could believe such a thing?

and the punishment didn’t stop there:-
“Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith has agreed to a one-year suspension of his attorney license in Washington, D.C., following his conviction in August 2020 on a felony false-statement charge “.
The important bits are in the indictment: that he was confecting fake evidence of Trump’s collaboration with Alfabank to pass to the FBI, using an unnamed IT overlord and the resources of a federally funded university in order to pass it off as authentic, all on the Clinton dime for which he billed them. He left it to the last moment, perhaps to allow the unnamed coconspirators to sleep more easily.

This is pro-forma stuff. Give a couple of the minor players a light slap on the wrist, then case closed.
If they were serious about this, multiple senior people from the US Government and its alphabet agencies would be facing charges of treason. But the Durham “investigation” was always part of the strategy to pretend to be Doing Something while stalling for time until they could get Orange Badman out.
