Wood burners cause nearly half of urban air pollution cancer risk – study
Exclusive: Wood smoke is a more important carcinogen than vehicle fumes, finds Athens analysis

That probably is true. But we know what comes next, right? You may only have heating fired by electricity. Something that comes centrally. And which can be turned off with your smart meter.

Can’t allow civilisation to persist, can we?

  1. My garden produces lots of scrap wood. Either I burn it in my log burner or I have a garden fire.
Perhaps the people who want to cover the country in trees should sit down with the people who want to ban log burners.

  2. @andyf
No, the trees should be burnt in power stations so that they can be transported further and used less efficiently, but still give Those With Power the decision as to who will get electricity and who will not. If you think of the Left as being those who want to introduce sumptuary laws that they are on the benefiting side of, everything they do makes sense.

  3. I have three woodburning stoves in the homestead, one of which runs 24/7. I don’t doubt they pollute, both indoors and out. Suspect the booze and my questionable diet will do for me long before those pesky carcinogens. Three recent deaths in the family (all male) from an assortment of cancers, also two brothers-in-law currently being treated for prostate cancer – none of which has/had ever owned a woodburning stove. Score one for me.

  4. 100% Matt!!!

Of course, since MY comfort is at stake, I’d have no hesitation at all in burning the environmentalists.

Yes we know this. It is the biggest single cause of respiratory diseases in Africa and Asia which is why it is imperative those people be denied cheap, clean electricity from fossil fuels so they can keep on dying and save the Planet.

  6. When *everyone* from King to serf had a wood fire to heat his home/palace, cancer was so rare that it wasn’t even considered worth studying. A history of cancer says scientific oncology started sometime after 1761.
But now when about 6% of homes have a wood-burning stove they have suddenly become *accused of being* the major cause of carcinogens in the air.
I seem to hear “Does Not Compute” in a weird computer voice.

  7. Leaving aside the rich who add woodburners as a visual, used 4 -5 times a year and the rural no alternatives cos the gas mains is 25 miles away.
Is there an inverse relationship between the cost of energy and the number of woodburners ? ( cos the econuts have increased costs in myriad ways)

“When *everyone* from King to serf had a wood fire to heat his home/palace, cancer was so rare that it wasn’t even considered worth studying. ”

That’s because most people were dead by 40.
