Amazing, just amazing I tell ya

And the best way to start is by getting more workers covered by collective agreements, sector-by-sector – so they can negotiate a fair pay rise with employers. Giving trade unions greater access to workplaces is the key to boosting pay and employment standards across the country.

Bird who runs trade union org insists more trade unions is solution.

Such a surprise, isn’t it?

  1. John B +1.. 🙂

True, because it worked so brilliantly for the motor industry, shipbuilding, mining, steel, etc…

“You know it makes sense”. 🙂

  2. It’s pure coincidence that trade unions flourish only in monopolies, like government, medicine, trains, teaching, etc.

I recall the story that when Los Angeles adopted a fair pay measure the measure excluded those in unions claiming that those in unions didn’t need the protection of fair pay measures because unions protected them. Others of course reasoned that it was to force employers to agree to agree to unions – raise your pay or accept the union. And of course joining unions left the “protected” workers worse off because union dues reduce workers take home pay.

  4. Still works for tube and train drivers.

and film and TV technical types. You hear a lot of “I need to move my camera – can you plug it in for us, Sparks?” I guess technician’s pay is such a small part of the overall cost of filming that nobody can be bothered to sort it out, in the way that Cameron Mackintosh did in the theatre.

Ah.. It wants the government to force companies to have mandatory union reps… Where’s the hose?

  6. Ha. It didn’t help the folks at Huff Po Canada / Huff Po Quebec. As soon as they unionist they were all made redundant.

Still, lefty tears are their only intrinsic value.

  7. I can remember a shore crowd doing a job on a ship I was working bye on in Avonmouth at Christmas 1976. It took them a week to complete. The pipe fitter couldn’t do the pipe work until the plater hand lifted the engine room floor plates. The electrician couldn’t move the cables because the pipe was in the way. The fitter couldn’t unbolt the backet until the electrician took out the 3/8″ set screw holding the cable tray to the bracket. It went on and on and none of them could work with any of the others. Fucking wankers the lot of them. A job that I could have done in 2 hours if the ship had been at sea. And I couldn’t be employed as an engineer without being in a union. Thank God for Saint Maggie bringing sense to it all. But those shore side workers; fucking wankers the lot of them. Sorry did I already say that? Well they were fucking wankers, even now 46 years later. So Francis O’Grady can go and fuck herself as well.
I’m normally very careful with my language on line but these fuckers just boil by piss totally. Fucking wankers the lot of them.
