So, someone I write for had a job ad out for some more work. So, I wrote in to see about it. They tell me that they’ve not got much budget to do this work. Therefore they can’t afford my rates for me to do it.
Hmm, should I take this as being a good sign, or a bad one?
BTW, no, it’s not the work I currently do for them.
Did they trot out the old “Exposure” nag?
No, that’s the thing. They just said – “Tim, you’ll not want to write for this, don’t worry about it” or at least implied that.
Therefore they can’t afford my rates for me to do it.
Just say no. Thin end of the wedge. Accept the reduced rate and they’ll soon try to apply it to their other work.
Who knows, the point being it’s just a flattering pretext or summat, no?
I’d say it’s a positive. This frees you up to find that which cannot be done by others.
