Bit fierce

Boris Becker, the three-time Wimbledon champion, was on Friday jailed for two-and-a-half years over bankruptcy offences as a judge told him he had been humiliated, but shown no humility.

But then this is one of the crimes the court system really doesn’t like – lying to the court system.

On the fairly sensible basis that if people think they can get away with lying to the courts then the courts don’t really work.

People get away with lying to the courts all the time. If you count lawyers as people, that is…

As Terry Thomas said in Too Many Crooks

“What are you smoking ? A Congo rat ? Who’s your accountant ?”

Obvously Boris is a bit thick. He can’t get away with anything, can he ? He failed to hide the dosh properly and thought that being a celeb he would not have the book thrown at him. Perhaps he also thought that he would just be like Uli Hoeness at Bayern Munich, who went down for tax evasion and emerged from his incarceration as a hero. Becker will probably be a Jihadi by the time of his releade.

Crimes against the state always lead to prosecution no matter how minor.

Crimes against us no matter how severe not so much.

“People get away with lying to the courts all the time. If you count lawyers as people, that is…”

Not forgetting the police, who probably lie to the courts more than they tell the truth……
