Dunno really, I’d start with soime principles myself

Joe Biden must act to reduce mounting economic pressure by ditching “woke advisers”, Mitt Romney said.

The Utah senator and former Republican presidential nominee made the demand in a column for the Wall Street Journal.

“A new set of priorities requires a new set of principals,” Romney wrote. “President Biden needs to ditch his woke advisers and surround himself with people who want to get the economy working again.”

One of the gigs I’ve got at present means reading quite a lot of the progressive press over there. The thing I’m really noting is that they don’t seem to have an actual idea. There’re masses of little tactical things. Sure, say anything to justify the child tax credit – just as an example. Invent some new measure of income in order to claim that unrealised capital gains should be taxed as income. Shriek that gerrymandering is the end of democracy – when, as the name suggests, it’s been going on as long as The Republic.

But there doesn’t seem to be any unifying idea – no principle. OK, politics often doesn’t have much of one but there doesn’t seem to be any one. It really does strike as being only about who should be the principals. You know, naked power fight.

  1. They do have a principle Tim; gaining power by whatever method necessary. If that means lying to the public and cheating, so be it. After all, when you have power, you’ll never be held to account.

“President Biden needs to ditch his woke advisers and surround himself with people who want to get the economy working again.”

That presupposes that Joe Biden is something other than a flatulent husk.

  3. “President Incontinentia Buttocks needs to be replaced by NEW president who will do the same things but without ‘woke advisors’ and diarrhea,” explained Senator JohnnyCab, while sparks emerged from his animatronic grin

  4. I thought Romney was meant to be working for the other side. That is for the GOP.
So why is he giving advice to the Dems?

  5. Sounds (smells??) like they were wearing the wrong sort of masks.

I do sympathise with Biden dropping off to sleep though.

  6. Oh the irony! Romney is the living, breathing epitome of the term RINO (Republican In Name Only). He just voted with two other RINOs to confirm the wokest Supreme Court justice evah. He was also one of the few Republicans to vote to impeach President Trump. Looks like his advisors are pretty woke too.

Romney is from the Democrat wing of the Republican party. The last thing he wants to see is a triumph by the Trump/DeSantis wing of the party. Like George W. and George H.W., Mitt would rather lose graciously than put up a fight… It over better at the country club, don’t you know.

  8. The Joe Biden presidency, much like the Obama presidency, is one of media optics, not solutions. Of course, the results have been so abysmal that even the latter have suffered.

And of course, none of this would even be a problem if Mitt Romney and his ilk hadn’t joined the liberals in their impeachment mob, all because he was jealous of a mean tweeter who actually became President. Welp, hope you’re proud of yourself, buddy. This is all on you! The “adults” are back in the White House, amirite?

  9. I’m not sure what Tim is getting on about the Democrats not having a principle goal. Their principles have been clear for years. They envision a largely poorer society that consumes less all in the interests of saving the planet. They think the western nations are too wealthy and need to be brought down and the rest of the world needs to have a lid put on their aspirations. This manifests itself in all sorts of policies – limiting home building despite a growing population; driving up energy costs; severely restrict industries that actually need blue collar workers and that might involve moving a little dirt; complaining about food miles; complaining about trade and cheap clothing; etc. etc. etc.

By trying to fathom the likely effects of these policies one can enrich oneself, hence the reason you see hedge funds buying up thousands of houses – they’re in demand and they’re just not making them much anyone more. An Elon Musk is a master at feeding at the public trough while claiming he’s saving the world. Hell, I’ve done well in oil stocks recently. Romney himself is a master.

The Dems find economic principles such as supply and demand to be offensive and would ban them if they could. They are pretty effective at keeping people who don’t have much from ever getting ahead. For those who do have something and are savvy enough to maneuver within the system the Dems are creating, then they are indeed frustrated that some become even more unequal. But their principles are written in bold letters on the wall for all to see packaged in the pitch of “we’ll take care of you – not too much, not too little, just the Goldilocks middle”. And they point to Cuba as a fine example of what can be accomplished.

He works *in* the GOP *for* the Dems – as do most of the rest of the GOP.

  11. Mitt Romney is the quintessential textbook definition of a RINO. Even Lindsay Graham and Mitch McConnell sometimes have principles that they adhere to.

Romney went from losing an election because the softball accusations of being “at war” with women were too much for him to handle, to claiming he’s some kind of defender of democracy. He’s a spoiled rich kid who prides himself on being a corporate shill. Whatever grit and determination his father had is survived by Mitt’s need for media acceptance.

Meanwhile, Matthew Dowd, a former Dubya Bush advisor, is now on MSNBC saying that today’s Republican Party “would have called Jesus a groomer” because they don’t want kindergarteners to be taught about genderqueerism. Nevermind that he worked for the guy who sought a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages.

Never underestimate the power of money and clout. 95% of these people, on either side, can be bought. A number of them have even switched parties multiple times depending not on policy positions, but rather on how they were doing in the polls and on the fundraising circuit.

  12. I take slight issue with the observation that Romney acts for the Dems. This is much bigger than mere parties. The likes of Romney, Collins, Murkowski and most disgracefully McConnell align with the uniparty establishment which in turn promotes a globalist agenda extending far beyond the US borders. The fact that this agenda currently aligns slightly more with the Democrat party is transient. Republican policy when Bush, Ryan, and Boehner held positions of power was little different to the hymn sheet of Pierre Delecto.

  13. @John 100% Many of these same people are itching for another dick-measuring contest war, this time with Russia and potentially with China.

  14. BTW, just found out today that Matthew Dowd fella also campaigned for Dennis Hastert to become Speaker of the House back in the day.

Dennis Hastert is now known as…wait for it…the highest ranking elected U.S. official to serve time in prison. His crime? You guessed it, child molestation.

    Can’t make this stuff up.
