Missed opportunity here

Sheep shorn of 18kg fleece after three years on the lamb

No, no, no, three years on the lam is a much, much, better pun…..

Anyway, here’s the next business idea. Cut the costs of wool production by only shearing once every three years…..

  1. Shearing needs to be done to prevent disease, maggots, and overheating. You can’t just leave them to grow longer wool.

  2. Breed a sheep where the fleece falls off naturally once a year. Spiders, scorpios and snakes manage it. Ok, that’s skin and they’re reptiles, but must be mammal that already does natural shedding.

Yes, for the average UK breed, but not for Merino.

    Bongo

All the ancient breeds, Soay, etc., shed their wool. Problem is collection: they rub it off anywhere that will snag it. The qualities pretty iffy too.

  4. Cost of shearing is greater than the value of the fleece.

Rincewind (The Last Continent) is a dab hand – and cheap

  5. @bongo my sons husky that we are looking after seems to have a very well developed self-shedding system if the state of my clothes and furniture are anything to go by

Does anyone get paid weekly any more?

I do and I hate it. First time since I was on the YTS @ 17. For not quite the first time in our lives, we have no money worries. And if I was paid monthly you’d be marginally concerned twice in the month, once on payslip day and once on due in the bank day.

Inside IR35. I have “day payslip is due day”, usually one but this week more “days until payslip is actually issued” day(s) and day pay arrives and you move it to the relevant sheering pen day. That’s at least 3 out of 7 days. It sucks.
