So, here’s a conspiracy theory

The Democrats have a Joe Biden problem. They may not be saying it out loud, or speculating openly about who their next presidential candidate is going to be, but a consensus is growing within the party that an increasingly gaffe-prone president is simply not fit to run for a second term of office — by the end of which he would be an unlikely 86-year-old commander-in-chief.

What the party establishment would like is someone who can win – but then be near ga ga or just incompetent having done so.

That is, Kamala would be just great. Because no one at all believes she’d ever actually do anything, or have any plans. So that party establishment could continue as they are now. In charge but with a figurehead and do-nothing at the top.

Go one, convince me I’m wrong….

The world has a Joe Biden problem which is a good reason for thinking that the conspiracy theory, like Joe Biden himself, won’t stand up. Voters will realise that a president shouldn’t be a marionette of his party grandees after experiencing four years of precisely that.

  2. If you think Harris would be content to just be a figurehead, Tim, I’ve got a bridge in my pocket to sell you.

  3. Well, it surely depends on the mid-terms. Whether they get beaten mildly or severely. Whether the country-club uniparty GOP keeps control on their side of the aisle. And for 2024, how are they going to put up Kamala, whom nobody likes, in an election? Unless of course she is sufficiently popular with the people who run the Dominion machines.

And I thought you were just pleased to see him…

  5. Biden is gaffe prone because he is senile. What is Kamala’s excuse?

Whether you like his politics or not, Pedo Joe has been a major figure in Congress for 50 years. If he hadn’t been struck down with dementia (or whatever) he’d probably have been an average POTUS along the lines of Carter.

Whereas Kamala has never been competent at anything she’s done. The positions she held in California (DA, AG and Senator) were her reward for services to Willie Brown’s middle leg. If anything, her “tough-on-crime” approach as California Attorney General has alienated the base that should be her biggest source of support, since they charge (quite reasonably) that her actions as AG were largely in opposition to the black community and included such actions as refusing DNA testing to a prisoner on death row and defending the death penalty in court.

If her experience is negative, what about the rest? Even here she falls short, having an off-putting personal style (like her nervous screeching “laugh”) and her inability to make firm decisions are weaknesses that any opponent would love to face (Democrat OR Republican), so how can they seriously see this woman expecting to carry a presidential campaign over the finish line?

  6. Biden’s advantage is the he has never held any opinions that he was not prepared to change when expedient. Not necessarily a recommendation for a post that requires decision-making

If we’re playing Devil’s Advocate over Biden, he was a big supporter during the Falklands crises and war and has more foreign relations experience than most of the Senate and Congress. Although that’s a very low bar.

That aside, I see Sarah Palin is getting back in to politics. What would you give to see the clusterfuck that would be a Harris v Palin presidential contest?

  8. At goes back to the age old retort.

“What question is Kamala Harris’ election as POTUS” the answer to?

Because I’ll be phuqed if I know.

  9. Whereas Kamala has never been competent at anything she’s done.

She must have been reasonably competent (or at least willing) at opening her legs or mouth.

  10. She must have been reasonably competent (or at least willing) at opening her legs or mouth

I was referring to her competence in the rolls to which she was elected / appointed rather than other matters. Yes, I’ve heard the accusations AND I’ve repeated the jokes about her relationship with Willie Brown, but lets face it, if she was competent at what she did would that really matter? or at least matter quite so much?

It is her very incompetence which points to the fact that the only way she could have obtained those positions is by being a cheap date or an easy lay for the Democratic movers and shakers in California.

  11. The comments on that article are remarkably sensible – I wonder how they got through The Times’s censorbot?

  12. Kamala Harris tanked in the primaries when she ran for president and there’s little to suggest that the public thinks more highly of her since becoming VP. If anything, it’s made them hopeful that Biden can keep standing upright. Besides, we all know that Hillary will probably run again.

I question that there really is a party establishment that just pulls the strings of a puppet. The Republican establishment most certainly did not want Trump. The Democratic establishment would probably have been pretty split on the issue of Bernie Sanders. In fact, Biden won because he was neither Sanders or Trump. The party establishment would certainly have some influence, but once someone takes the wheel they are driving the car relegating the establishment to the back seat.

Maybe that’s why the Biden administration feels like one car crash after another?

  14. Yup. Perhaps an establishment that could exert some control would be desirable, but who makes up the establishment – Pelosi, Sanders, Warren, AOC and Soros?

  15. You’re not wrong. And so we’re going to end up with a President who talks like she’s trying to hit a word count on an essay she didn’t study for.

All because assholes got scared of Trump.

  16. The Meissen Bison

These people elected Biden despite his lack of accomplishment and clear mental disability.

They’re fine with a backroom cabal running things – they elected Obama too, remember?

    philip

Harris has never been other than a figurehead. As VP she’s shown that she is utterly incompetent.

  17. so how can they seriously see this woman expecting to carry a presidential campaign over the finish line?

Because they expect to find enough flash drives of D ballots in the middle of the night to carry her over the line. Because after Fortified Election 2020, it doesn’t matter who you vote for, unless you happen to choose who the D establishment wants to win. They will just keep counting until they win.

Biden didn’t carry a presidential campaign over the 2020 finish line. He barely campaigned at all. He hid in the basement all year, hardly showed up anywhere. They’ll do the same thing with Harris, if she is the chosen puppet.

Trump was on track to win fairly comfortably but for Covid, which did not play to his strengths. And then Biden could use Covid as an excuse to hide and not have to explain what he would do better.

Such luck is unlikely to strike Harris. She will have to front up.

And worse, she will have to defend the current administrations failings. Inflation, in particular. She can’t waffle about how she would do things better, like Biden did with Covid, without the faintest idea of how to actually do better.

  19. @John Galt
“Pedo Joe has been a major figure in Congress for 50 years”

He climbed the greasy pole and achieved nothing other than becoming rich

  20. @jgh I think Heinlein-wise, you’d be looking more to the worlds of Jubal Harshaw and Friday. At least for the “West”.

Nehemiah Scudder and his ilk have already gotten their mitts on the Middle-East.

  21. This is definitely an ongoing theory in the States. Kamala can’t win, because she not only proves to be incompetent and out-of-touch, but no one even knew who she was about 3 years ago. In fact, during the Democratic primaries, she got about 2% of the vote. Biden was not a frontrunner either, but he has the entire Establishment behind him. The DNC was able to push out people like Bernie Sanders (for the second time) and Tulsi Gabbard (Hillary called her a “Russian asset” in an interview at the time).

So they have a manufactured candidate in Biden. He’s whatever they want him to be ideologically, and he can put on his folksy Grandpa demeanor that some people still fall for. His father was a used car salesman, after all. The liberal media networks will tell the public whatever they’re told to report, a precedent of control set by Hillary when she received the 2016 debate questions in advance.

Then there was the pandemic, a crisis which, in the words of the Democrats, they “never let go to waste.” They got tech companies to censor the negative stories, got the media to completely dismiss the Hunter Biden scandals, and they passed “emergency” legislation under the guise of COVID-19 precautions to make election fraud easier. And then they had the balls to tell us not that there was very little fraud, but that there was “zero” fraud whatsoever (there’s always some fraud). So they could break as many rules as they wanted to get the least coherent and least charismatic candidate ever elected.

They knew Biden was never any kind of leader, so they outfitted him with a cabinet full of Obama leftovers – Ron Klain, Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice…all the usual suspects. These are the “they” Biden is talking about when he says “they won’t let me talk to the press for too long.” This group of advisors is the actual President of the United States. Although, not really, because they were never elected and sworn in.

Kamala is also a figurehead, and she will be controlled by the same group of advisors should anything happen to Joe. We basically don’t have a president or Vice President as long as these asshats are in the White House. Even with some of our worst presidents–Obama, Bush, Carter–I doubt our federal government has ever been run this way before.

If Biden or Harris win in 2024, without first making several major shifts in policy, you will know what’s really going on. There are literally young, up-and-coming comedians in New York City right now making jokes about Biden and Kamala’s incompetence, and their audiences are laughing. Everyone sees it.
