Veil ban in schools sees Muslim girls get better grades and more mixed marriages
French study finds that, despite early criticism, rules forbidding headscarves in schools may have had some positive effects

Plenty of people would argue that more mixed marriages is a bad idea. Those who would like the continuation of their religion, for example.

Not just them either. There’s a definite strand in Black American thought that marrying out is treachery to the race……

  1. It seems likely that the longer a family has lived in France, the better it’s offspring will do in French schools- since the family will speak better French, know more about France and be able to pass that on.
It also seems likely that the longer a family has lived in France, the more ready they will be to accept the French.
So is the difference because of the changed dress code, or is it just that Muslims are slowly integrating with time?
A study of the boys, who never wore a headscarf, would provide enlightenment.

“So is the difference because of the changed dress code, or is it just that Muslims are slowly integrating with time?”

I would very much doubt that this would have a sufficiently significant efffect in the timescales involved, or indeed that the time effect could be distinguished from the “integration” cause, which the study postulates could be an effect of the headscarf ban itself…

“A study of the boys, who never wore a headscarf, would provide enlightenment.”
This, however, is more likely to tell you…

I’m guessing no change in boys’ attainment…

  3. It really is time that the government stopped paying pressure groups to pressurise the government. One for Mr Rees-Mogg perhaps.
