Difficult to catch, eh?

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said that the infection does not easily spread between people and the risk to the population is low. The virus kills up to one in 10 of those infected.

However, it added that the most recent cases were among gay and bisexual men, and advised these communities to be alert to any unusual rashes and lesions on the body.

Depends upon how close when gets to the infected presumably…..

I’m guessing some relative of smallpox here?

  1. If monkeypox comes from monkeys

    And cowpox comes from cows

Does smallpox come from underpants ?

  2. I’m guessing some relative of smallpox here?

Wikipedia says same family (Poxviridae) but not directly related. “causes a disease that is similar to smallpox, but with a milder rash and lower death rate”.

Death rate appears to be ~10% if untreated, 0% in the West with medical access.

  3. The Meissen Bison

Death rate appears to be ~10% if untreated, 0% in the West with medical access.

So for the UK the death rate would be ~10%

  4. Bloke in Cornwall

@Philip – Please don’t encourage them, I’m sure they are already planning how to justify the next round of population subjugation… A few more cases and some screaming about being more lethal than covid and we’ll have people clapping at night again

  5. We mustn’t lockdown the country because that would stigmatise gays. (I offer you a prediction of a Guardian opinion piece.)
