Now I wonder, how did this happen?

Polio is spreading in Britain for the first time in nearly 40 years, health officials have warned, as they declared a national incident, and urged people to make sure they are vaccinated.

Without having read further I’d suggest it’s to do with arrivals from places that aren’t fully vaccinated…..

The UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) said that a polio virus had been detected in sewage from North and East London in February.

Hmmm….

Health experts believe the virus was probably imported from an individual who had recently been given an oral polio vaccine abroad, possibly in countries such as Nigeria, Pakistan or Afghanistan where outbreaks are still common.

Ahh…..it’s actually vaccine derived, is it?

  1. That is a weakness of the oral vaccine. I understand the Yanks give the Salk vaccine first to protect against any failure of the oral one.

And one notices that the monkeypox is spreading as well.

  2. Says everything that though they’ve detected the polio virus in sewage (probably at just detectable levels) and think it’s from a vaccine (so not a case of transmission), the “authorities” still want to create a panic in the public by declaring a national incident. They’ve realised that the public can be easily controlled if they are scared, especially when it’s about health.

Reminds me of one of my favourite sayings – “The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants, and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience.” ― Albert Camus

Feeling good as you lock people up for their own safety doesn’t stop you being evil.

  3. When my son was given the oral Polio vaccine as a baby I recall being told that there was a slight risk of contracting Polio from changing his nappy, so should be extra thorough washing hands.

Sounds like a racist conspiracy theory; everybody knows there are only upsides from mass third-world immigration….

  5. How do they go from ‘polio detected in sewage’ to ‘polio is spreading’?

Is there a record of an uptick in cases? Or even a record of a single case recently?

  6. And one notices that the monkeypox is spreading as well.

A lot of people don’t realise that they have Monkeypox. They are usually achimptomatic !

  7. As far as I know, no actual cases of polio have been detected. This does look like a panicky overreaction. I think it’s just idiot headless chickens rather than Mencken’s hobgoblins.

  8. The best way to get rid of these worrying “national incidents” is to completely eliminate borders.

  9. Thinking about the announcement. If they can detect polio virus at that level of dilution – can’t be from more than a handful of people – what else are they scanning for? We already know about Class A/B drug residues and hormones. In theory, if TPTB were sufficiently concerned they could track a detection up the sewerage system to pin down the location more precisely.

  10. Tractor Gent:

They could, but unless they fitted a sampling unit to every toilet (now there’s an idea!) what would be the point? In some neighbourhoods there are very high percentages of people who migrated from Africa and the Middle East, and a lot of them are here illegally.

  11. The report also states that That London has the lowest rates of polio vaccination in the country. Wonder why.

  12. Follow the money: detecting vaccine in sewage is turned into a national incident by the detector’s search for relevance and funding.

  13. Notice that paragon of public health grift Devi Sridhar is well on the polio bandwagon already. There’s fortunes to be made from scaring the public.

    Otto – LOL

  14. Sadbutmadlad

You have it on the money – it’s living proof of the accuracy of the maxim – ‘Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely’ and let’s be honest which of us if allowed to control the populace without the need to be elected wouldn’t have been tempted to act like Whitty, Ferguson and Vallance?

  15. Anon for good reasons

Follow the money: detecting vaccine in sewage is turned into a national incident by the detector’s search for relevance and funding.

No, not even that. Searching for an OBE or CBE like their colleagues working on Covid got. There’s a lot of that going on in the monkeypox response (which actually a spreading disease in the UK albeit not very quickly and almost entirely restricted to specific subset of the population and their very close personal contacts.)

  16. “Someone in the UK recently received the same vaccine that everyone aged over 40 in the UK has had” is the actual headline, except that wouldn’t be a headline in the first place.

  17. “What else are they scanning for?”

IIRC, the Covid virus was found in Italian sewage samples as far back as November 2019 – three months before the world suddenly went bonkers, and locked us all down to “Reduce the Spread”.

Equine species and lockable building openings comes to mind…“What else are they scanning for?”

VP, I would guess not so many reading this site.

    DW

“IIRC, the Covid virus was found in Italian sewage samples as far back as November 2019”

Prior to that. I haven’t got the link/study I read handy – but going back and checking previously stored blood samples in a particular region of Italy showed that, as early as September 2019, something like roughly 10% of that local population had already generated (recent) specific anti-bodies for Sars Cov 2. And nobody noticed…..

  19. There’s also the fact that the world military games were held in Wuhan area a few months before Covid hit the headlines when there were already reports of a new respiratory disease
Anecdotal but January before the lockdown we had a flu type bug that swept through the office and hit everyone, was another 15 months before any of us tested positive for Covid and that was 2 weeks after their first vaccination

  20. This is a bizarre story. The oral vaccine is a weakened strain of the disease and it is well known that it gets shed from recently vaccinated individuals. In fact, that is one of its advantages! If you go to a remote village and vaccinate everyone, anyone who was missed can pick up the vaccine from the vaccinated individuals as long as the exposure is soon enough.

While there is a very small chance that the weakened strain can evolve back into the original, that is not very important because it should only happen when the local population have been freshly vaccinated and have a high level of immunity.

  21. PF – I think someone checked biopsy samples from lung cancer patients, again Italy, from October 2019, in May/June 2020. Guess what? The boys Cowen and Tabarrok picked up on it.

As it turns out, my aunt and uncle both ended up in hospital in November ’19, respiratory problems. Something nasty was going around schools at the same time. Someone said to us that they were consistently down by about a third of pupils over the period – “never seen anything like it”.

  22. I doubt a US source.. Simply because the specific research done at Wuhan was exactly because it wasn’t allowed in the US.

Also, all the original hotspots outside of China, including Lombardy, have one thing in common: vast amounts of chinese coming through..

The thing about the original strain is that it was neither very infectious nor contagious, so the bug itself could well have lived under the radar for far longer than we currently imagine.
If you take the dutch Ground Zero, you’re talking about several 10’s of thousands doing Apres-ski in Lombardy, then heading off to celebrate Carnaval in Brabant/Limburg.
It’s amazing how two/three weeks of “dancing”/snogging in overloaded pubs and skihuts by …a significant mass of people.. only resulted in several tebs of confirmed infections initially…

Which is a thing about the “can we prevent it next time?”
Nope.. because Africa, South-America, and Asia have plenty of places where any infectuous agent has free reign and can adapt to its’ heart’s content.
Honestly, the one place which surprised me was India, which failed to fall over. But that may well be because a Newbie like CoVid19 has some seriously veteran competition in that particular hellhole..

  23. It’s interesting seeing the stuff come out now about covid turning up all over the world well before the panic. I had a nasty and out of season (summer in Australia) flu in December 2019 which knocked me on my arse for a few days, I’ve always suspected that was an early strain.

  24. Hepatitis in children (which has gone quiet now), monkeypox mainly among gay men (also dropped off the news cycle), and now polio – why does every month bring another outbreak of a strange disease? Is it coincidence, is something causing them all?

    It’s A Mystery…

“is something causing them all”: What has changed sinse Dec 2020? Only one thing: the “safe & effective” gene editing jabs

  25. @Pcar – “the “safe & effective” gene editing jabs”

No such thing. If that’s a reference to covid vaccinations, none of them edit your genes.

And the fact that there are diseases in the news is easily explained by the recent pandemic which has made everyone far more interested in diseases.

  26. ‘What has changed since Dec 2020?’

Pcar. I’d say what’s changed is the wonderful success of the covid panic. The sheeple are cowering in terror!!! They’re doing what we tell them to!!!!! We’re stealing lots and lots and lots of their money. And as well as us being richer, they’re now poorer!!!!!!!!! God’s in His heaven, all’s right with the world.

So naturally they’re trying it on again.
