Refwernda are the tools of fascists

Hope he’s told Nicola and the SNP that…..

  1. Like most leftists if he didn’t have double standards he’d not have any standards.

I’m guessing he didn’t get invited to any Jubilee Parties which took place in his part of Ely – and it’s possible the ban by Pubwatch in Downham Market from every establishment has extended to elsewhere in Fenland!

  2. Well, now that Labor’s won, referenda about a republic and a special house in Parliament for abos are being talked about again.

As you’ve guessed, I intend to vote no in both of them. If Albo ever gets around to holding them.

  3. What is it with the Pubwatch thing, VP. For real? The only thing normally gets people banned is aggressive behaviour. Pub bores & alkies you live with. Hard to see Cardigan Man as aggressive. Petrified of his own shadow, more like it. So what was it? Persistent Quaker temperance preaching?
I can remember being in Downham Market years ago. Jeez it had a lot of pubs. Seemed to be every other building. Didn’t it boast the smallest in the country at one time? Get about three customers in it if they squeezed up.

  4. Oh! Should have put “except in Liverpool” after “aggressive behaviour”. One likes to be accurate.

BiS: Get about three customers in it if they squeezed up.

Or maybe just the corpulent Tuber having an argument with himself?

The story is that the landlord of his local did ask him if he would stop banging on whatever hobby horse he was going on about at the time – with the result that he kicked off at the landlord and, rather like Murphy did with the much missed FCA blog, the landlord of the pub in question decided in a fit of pique he’d get him barred from what you have correctly identified was a significant number of pubs in the town itself. Based on his written output, I’m presuming that going around calling anyone who disagrees with you a ‘fascist'(which he was doing even then) probably did get people’s backs up to the extent there was some physical confrontation. I’ll see if I can trawl into Tor for a reference – might take some time though as it was a comment I read on some Forum about Norfolk

  7. Christ! I’ve know some seriously offensive people not been banned. Me for a start. That must have been some ding-dong

As you say – unusual! Had it been a one or two pub village then not impossible but Downham Market must have had double figures pubs back in the day so it must have been some contretemps. As Bravefart and TMB often comment I have a particularly mischievous relation who Gives me Murphy’s books as a joke Xmas present and he knows him personally, so I know when he has been to the house he doesn’t go to the pub (at least he didn’t in Downham Market) although Murphy was on childcare duty at least partially…

  9. Stuart Goddard ( Adam Ant) for a start. You couldn’t get anyone more offensive. Pissed off everyone he ever met. Chucked a (starter motor Wiki claims!) through the window of the PoW & threatened the company therein with a replica pistol. Don’t think it made him exactly welcome there, but he wasn’t banned from the rest of Camden’s boozers. More’s the pity. Still blighted the Steel’s & the Washington.

  10. @BiS I used to play against the cricket team from the Washington, iirc the barman had some fingers missing. Wasn’t due to a dandy highwayman, perchance?

The Pubwatch scheme operates one principle of barred from one, then barred from all. I think co-ordination is via Plod.

It doesn’t necessarily imply that it was barstools through the windows type stuff.

And in my experience not all premises are members of a Pubwatch scheme in a given town but as a scheme it is administered by the local Constabulary. From recollection he is not from Norfolk and in my experience the Inhabitants of more rural/ ‘abandoned’ areas can be quite vindictive and petty so the tale has the ring of truth to it – I will see if I can locate the source of it. Might have been some CAMRA local news board or such…

  13. It would be a lot quicker and easier if he made a list of things that don’t prove one is a fascist.
